Basic MMA =
At the most basic level, Mortal Martial Art styles are essentially there to add flavour to the game and inspire stunts based on what each character's style looks like, as well as encouraging development of backstory based on schooling and origins.
Example: Kabera Ha, a style practised by islanders east of the Coral Archipelago, incorporates elements of firedancing with quick flurries of blows from unexpected angles. Jeg Seafoam, our hero and Coral pirate, was shipwrecked on one of these islands and befriended the local natives, who taught him their ways. Now, when he's in the thick of a melee, he whips around his opponents with distractingly sinuous movements, striking them with his staff when their eyes are on his movements. His friends sometimes jokingly refer to him as a 'disjointed parrot' in combat.
Powers
Essentially, MA remains the same as it is in the core rules. At the players' discretion, they can restrict their characters to particular weapons or moves, which may be rewarded with experience bonuses for good roleplay, and stunt dice in a manner similar to signature styles in combat. MMA styles could also be the focus of specialties at this level, particularly to model masters of single martial arts. STs and players may want to come to agreements on how many styles a character is allowed to know at creation, but there are no set rules for it.
Tiers of styles are somewhat irrelevant at this level. Obviously, the cooler a character is meant to be, the more unique and cool their styles should be.
