Rifts Setting: One Year Later
Aidan has taken most of this year off from big jobs as he restructures the Renegades in the wake of the massive exodus following their harrowing journey back from the far west.
Tom and Erica have moved uptown to a nice house, but still aren’t married. Erica is achieving relative success as a soap actress, and Tom is taking a few night classes in criminology, helping the CPD with a few cases.
Kael finally made the right move with Jessie and moved in with her at her house/garage. They spend entirely too much time covered in grease. Don’t take that the wrong way. Okay, do.
Aidan had to pull an Encino Man (we don’t want you here anymore!) with Kim and Aorei, but he finally pissed them off enough that they split. Last he heard, they were heading into Xiticix territory to combat the bug menace.
Since he’s not going to be a PC, I’m officially nixing the plotline revolving around Kael being a True Atlantean. He’s just really tall, and his parents were of “standard” mixed extra-dimensional heritage.
John (or Isaac or whatever) finally committed suicide in a dingy motel outside Chi-Town. Aidan, Padre, and Paco left his carcass there, and gave the owner 1000 cr. To bury their associate. He probably bought drugs with it.
The three aforementioned Renegades pulled off Sabrina’s rescue on their own. There was a horrific bloodbath as they escaped, and all of Sabrina’s friends and her mother were killed, along with a dozen ISS officers.
Sabrina now lives in Lazlo, in a downtown apartment Aidan pays for, and uses LAZNET to remote hack whatever she can get away with, but piggybacking on LAZNET is hard (the CS has built-in defenses vs. LAZNET), so she’s likely to want to get closer to the CS at some point.
Sabrina has a tremendous crush on Paco. Everyone knows it but Paco. Aidan is endlessly entertained by this and is unlikely to say anything about it unless Paco expresses interest in the (now) 18-year old city rat.
Vic left for the next “bigger, better deal” shortly after Aidan scaled back operations a year ago. Last anyone heard, she was heading back down to Ft. El Dorado to do some damage from the inside.
Butch got a job at Madame Marie’s; bouncing and saving up to afford a detox. He’s most of the way there, so he’ll probably make it, but he’ll still be almost eight feet tall, with metal bones, so he’ll still have a job.
Aidan, Padre, and Paco have spent an inordinate amount of time hanging around in bars and nightclubs over the past year, both Aidan and Padre in serious danger of slipping back into the bottle entirely. This is another reason for them to get back into Merc jobs.
Padre still has the War Truck, but it’s not legal to drive within the city (by special order of Chief Xynn) so he doesn’t get to drive it nearly often enough. No one has any power armor anymore.
A real Renegade never really quits, but the list of those on “Inactive Duty” is: Tom, Erica, Jessie, Kael, Butch, and even Sabrina, though in her case, it’s more like a “specialist” position outside the regular chain of command.
