Bancha Sakamogi, prince of the Moon City

The Moon City

By the end of the known world, in the very far East, stands a very strange forest made of walking and dreaming tree-beings. These tree-beings were spirits of the Eastern woods who had walked the Earth a thousand times, then they came to this place and put a stop to their journeys. Of their dreams and fantasies came to life a magnificent sanctuary made of pure green jade and moonsilver. Curious humans came from time to time to this sanctuary but were shunned and turned away, for this place was a holy sanctuary of trees, crops and faunae. It was a place where Luna camed sometimes to enjoy herself among the tree-beings who were all very pleased by her presence. She touched them with her hands and all of their foliage turned to shades of silver. Although all the other cities liked and prayed the sun-god, the inhabitants of this city thought the sun to be purposely ignoring their work and so, they ignored him too. Since Luna came often to visit this place of wonder, the tree-beings called this place the Moon City.

As time went by, humans still tried to penetrate the sanctuary, always curious and wanting to see the beautiful Luna dancing with her silver ornaments. One night, the tree-beings decided that they could invite humans to watch the feast they had prepared for their beloved goddess, Luna. So they came, and they came in great numbers. Every being that was there was also touched by the beauty of Luna who danced and shone over the city, leaving silver shades in the hair of the humans. Making sacrifices and offerings to the tree-beings, the humans prayed them to let them settle in their sanctuary. The tree-beings accepted with certain conditions : by settling in this sanctuary, they would be under the dominion of Luna, for the sun-god had insulted the work of the crafty tree-beings ; by entering it, no one could ever get out of it, even if Luna called one of them as her Chosen. So they agreed to turn their back on their gods, protecting themselves from any outsiders and locking themselves in this magical city.

Then, the sun had set for a long time, leaving the sun-god praying cities helpless. The Moon City carried on by counting on Luna for her protection. Meanwhile, dynasties rose and came to an end in the Moon City. Some tree-beings growed into human forms and walked among the inhabitants as humans. Not only tree-beings did this, but other magical beings such as the flower-beings, the most talented performers of the forest.

The Sakamogi family

The Sakamogi family certainly originates from the union of a flower-being and a human lover. All the performers with the best of talents were of this blood. Each generation counted at least one failure, who was always doomed to die in a miserable state of forgetfulness. The Sakamogi were peerless actors, masterful singers and dancers, painters that could recreate a whole new world in a single picture, crafters of statues that could almost emulate life. They were all very proud and always very attached to their mother, who was usually carefully chosen to be the only progenitor at a time for one generation. Of course, this gave a lot of pressure to a single woman, who usually had to give birth to many, many children.

Bancha Sakamogi

One child of Amo Sakamogi was called Bancha Sakamogi. He was a beautiful boy with soft, fine features. Behind his sparkling blue eyes were the hundreds of hundreds of questions this young boy could never find an answer to. It was also him that dreamed of daring to cross the limits binding the people to their city. He was laughed at and shunned as a mad boy. As he grew up, he became impatient and impulsive, unable to wait to see what was beyond the tree-beings' feet. He was a poorly talented performer, compared to his 23 siblings. He was an insult to the Sakamogis. Mourning, he went to see his uncle who had collected legends and pieces of the outside world, who belived in Bancha and his dream of leaving this city. By frequently visiting him, Bancha aided his uncle, who used to be a fantastic acrobat but was now crippled, in his daily business. That's the way he discovered the gifted doctor he was, a thing that none in his family never has been. His siblings called him names, believed him crazy and foolish to attempt to realize his dream : leaving. Packing his memories, some clothing and some food, he left his home city by swearing to one day come back and prove them all wrong.

Exaltation

By traveling during countless days and weeks, walking in circles and never knowing where he was going, he cursed at the enchanted forest that prevented anything or anyone to go in or out. Even Luna would not help him leave this place. He felt that this endless stride was the real power behind the magical enchantments surrounding the Moon City. Although he was a young 16-year old hothead at the time, all the things seemed much worse to him than they actually were. So he turned to the Unconquered Sun, who stared at him for days and days. Bancha used to the best he could all of his knowledge to find a way. He walked the earth he walked not long ago a thousand times. He fell on the ground, physically and emotionaly exhausted. He yelled his despair and his frustrations. His family would have been right, and that Sakamogi black sheep would have met the end that every foolish inhabitant meets as they leave the city. He was tired, starving, wounded and with a dire absence of water and healing ingredients, his babbling magical tricks not even a match to the great enchantment that was put upon this place. Some birds flew over him, awaiting his demise to come and feast on his fresh, warm flesh. He came back to his spirits and desperatly tried to clean some of his wounds, with a ridiculously poor quality of medicine aids. He lifted his gaze at the setting summer sun, and suddenly, great rush of saffron light and energy flowed through him, as if thousands of voices spoke to him of what to do and where to go, a blazing mark on his forehead. Words of Old Realm rushing through his thoughts, forgotten passages of texts he'd have read in the libraries of the City's sovereign. The pain had left him as quickly as the light left the earth before him. The Essence in him was a strong, pure, revigorating energy. It was exacly what he needed to carry on. Every step he made on the ground was the step of a new-born mircale worker, the power of the Unconquered Sun filling each of his movements. He rose and went West, finding a great village with worried people looking at him and wondering who the devil could he be. Of course, as he was a prince of the mythical Moon City, he also was a rightful prince of the earth.

His dream had come true, and as if the Unconquered Sun would teach a lesson to the Moon City's people, the Incarna Exalted that one who would become, one day, Creation's most powerful Solar sorcerer.

That was a thing that the tree-beings did forgot : Solar Exaltation enabled to leave properly, as no such magic can prevent a Solar Exalt to go where he desires to be.

Meeting Azrielle

Four years later, he traveled to a great Eastern village. He came upon an angry, blood-thirsty, rake-wielding peasant mob, pursuing an attractive young woman, about the same age he was. She was running and crying, a spectacular blue flamming light around her and a Twilight Castemark on her forehead; not quite the casual way to first meet someone. She fell at his feet as the mob came behind her, chasing the fugitive. Trusting his instincts and his Charms, he managed to get him and the young woman out of the peasants' reach. Her name was Azrielle Termalen. She was a beautfiul young woman with soft features. She had light brown skin, knee-length snow-white hair, simple and practical clothing, and finally, very obvious pointy ears, just like Bancha's. She said that Fae-blooded were among her ancestors.
