Master Eagle
Description
Also known as Benevolent Eagle (though never behind his back), Master Eagle appears to be balding man in his late forties with whispy white-gold hair, dark blue eyes and a stern face that might at one point have been handsome, but has been worn away by years of stress and scowling. His 5’7” frame has become considerably more rotund over the years, but still has a few years to go before you could call him fat. He typically dresses in elaborate blue, white and gold robes, often decorated with geometric, feathery or celestial patterns. Simple occult charms adorn his wrists and neck, while a round, wide-brimmed hat sits upon his head that has arcane symbols etched upon it. Hanging from the brim of the hat are additional beads of bone, feathers and other occult charms.
It is rare for their to be an expression on his face that is anything other then a variation on a scowl. He tends to be speak expansively and with a great deal of authority, as if everything he has to say is of the utmost importance. When addressing someone he always looks them in the eye and gives them an order. There is no room for compromise or challenging his authority and thanks to his position and the functionaries he tends to surround himself with, there is rarely anyone he interacts with who would ever dare question that authority.
History
Master Eagle is the most senior member of the Directorate, the ruling body of the Guild, a position which he uses to rule the Guild with an iron scale. He is the second of the Guild’s three representatives within the Council of Entities though he is not a well-known figure around Nexus as he tends to spend the majority of his time his office at the top of the Guildhall surrounded by a legion of scribes and scholars. Ruling over this small kingdom of intellectuals he determines the economic future of not only the Guild, but the majority of the Confederation of Rivers and many of the Threshold Kingdoms.
The prince of the merchant princes is obsessive when it comes to rules, regulations and protocol. He is also obsessive when it comes to knowing the details about the Guild’s activities, successes and failures both within and outside of Nexus. Off the top of his head, he can not only tell you what the current market value of rice is in Chiaroscuro, but he can tell you exactly why it has that value as well as outline three different plans for both increasing the value of rice and three other plans for depressing its value. Give him enough time and he could probably give you fifty for each as well as give you theories for the long term effects on the global marketplace for each plan.
While his position on the Council and within the Guild would seem to imply a close relationship with Fifth Coyote, nothing could be further from the truth. Master Eagle loathes Fifth Coyote with every fiber of his being and has done so for years. He sees the younger merchant prince as an upstart whelp who skated to the top simply on charm and good looks. The two also move in completely different circles. Fifth Coyote moves among a circle of the most powerful and elite in Nexus, while Master Eagle confines himself to his neat little world of facts, figures and ivory towers.
