The rod was crafted of blue jade and tooled to appear to be an innocuous scepter about the length of a forearm. When directed upward to the heavens during a thunderstorm, it attracts lightning. It can make a passable lightning rod and can be used for such, but its true power is the ability to generate deafening thunder in a directed manner. It produces the sound when pointed and 1 mote is spent. If it has been struck by lightning recently, the effect is free for 5 uses. It will deafen anyone within the 30 yard forward arc, and a botch on the stamina+resistance saving throw means the target also took 1 pt of bashing damage from ruptured ear drums.
