25th Day of Descending Wood, RY 769

I posted a letter to my parents today, informing them of the events surrounding Tepet Martelli's death. Everything points to him being a traitor, but when it comes to a secretive organization like the Chantry, the involvement of the raksha, and the Ragara Tren situation, I can't rule out the possiblity that it's a setup designed to sow discord in House Tepet.

6th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

Virtuous Cloud left school today with Lucretia. The non-existence of Ragara Tren bothers her even more than it does me. She says that she is going to figure out who or what he really was. I wish her luck.

7th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

I installed Esley as Vice President of the Greater Deliberative. It will take time, but he'll learn and carry on what we've started after we're gone.

Kazuki's little sister, Mahiro, has shown quite an interest in politics this year. I decided to help her win the presidency of the Lower Deliberative. She may have the same troubling notions as her brother and friends, but she wants to do good and I'm reasonably sure I can control her if necessary.

12th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

Aunt Elana has returned from her convalescence. She seems healthy and recuperated; I didn't notice any sign of her battle with the Anathema.

She brought gifts from my parents, too: A jade-reinforced buff jacket and a stone of humble glory.

Even better, she intends to travel with us to Whitewall. This'll be the most time I've spent with her since our voyage from the Blessed Isle almost 2 years ago. Maybe my classmates will learn something from her, too.

14th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

Judas has decided to make Mother of Ash his reclamation project. I dug up some records for him and found out that she used to be a mortal woman named Morning Frost Willow. And in the realm of it's a small world, Kazuki's friend Chisato is her great-great grand daughter. I lectured Judas on the need to send Ash on to her next life, but he seems uninterested in doing that.

15th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

Word from the western isles is that the offensive against the Abalone Island pirates will be complete by the end of this month.

Just a few more months to hold things together and then the next phase begins.

17th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

Rector Danic strongly suggested that we be out of town before Peleps Deled and the Wyld Hunt arrive. I can't say I disagree. Judas wants me to let Morning Frost Willow spend the summer on my yacht, away from Cherak. I agreed, with some reluctance. I don't like what he's doing with that ghost, but it's not worth the fight right now to get into it with him.

I wonder, is this how it starts? Is this how honorable Dragon-Bloods fall?

19th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

Haining approached me today. In thanks for arranging his visit to House Mnemon, he offered me the use of a porter demon for the summer. I was almost a little disappointed to have to decline. Even if I was comfortable with it, there's no way Ranka would have allowed it.

20th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

Since I will be preceding Elin into Whitewall by some weeks, she asked me to collaborate on a letter of introduction I could present to the Syndics for her.

It's a strange situation, a city outright ruled by gods. Sometimes I wonder why the Realm never dealt with it? I suppose the Empress had more pressing concerns over the years. Whitewall is very remote and the Syndics don't seem inclined to abuse the citizenry or threaten Creation.

And now they're willing to have not only an official Realm representative, but Realm troops, as well. Elin is a skilled diplomat, hopefully once she establishes herself she can sort out why they changed their minds.

26th Day of Ascending Fire, RY 769

I purchased 8 spirit-sensing draughts from Tevaned today-- preparation for the journey from Wallport to Whitewall. It seems everyone has a different understanding of the pact that governs the road and everyone has a different idea of what to do about it. I don't believe we can encounter real trouble with Aunt Elana along, but I don't believe the raksha and the servants of the Deathlords will ignore us, either.

We leave for Whitewall on the 1st.
