Son of Mnemon and one of her consorts, Elan was raised among her offspring with al lthe expectations of Exaltation that accompany a child of such marvelous breeding (and beginning to show signs of aspect from so early on in his life; at the age of a few months, his nurses were already laughing about how he sneezed seawater.)

He was raised with assassination attempt after attempt made on his life, both by siblings that did not need another contender for - what they felt - would eventually be /their/ seat on the Scarlet Throne, and by other Houses. None succeeded, as he seemed to have the devil's own eyes for such things - it's not that he /knew/ his peaches had been poisoned, after all, it was simply that on /that/ day out of a thousand he tripped and knocked them to the ground, and when he went to pick them up the palace dog stole one before he could get to it, and up and died. Everyone on the kitchen staff was executed for their failure to protect the food. Just, blind luck, really.

It was in his time in school that the attempts grew less frequent, then stopped completely, as the realization came about that Exaltation was not in his future. His private tutors were no longer needed, and there was no more pressure for his future - he was worthless, and an oddity at that.

He did attend secondary school at the Thousand Scales. He was destined for some cushy and unimportant position in the imperial treasury; and so it was a surprise when a passing Magistrate (a Sidereal, in fact) offered him a position as archon - and Mnemon Elan took it.

They did not travel together very long before the Magistrate - Cathak Vitirial (Unfaithful Glory, in heaven) - began to instruct him in things beyond the ken of mere mortal archons; it was in their travels together that Journeys tightened the webs of Fate around Elan, and Exalted him.

He has, since, come to take a position in heaven similar to the one he one he held in Creation - he makes of himself a travelling auditor and investigator. Most often he brings about the weeding out of corruption among little gods and local City Mothers and Fathers, but he does what he can to improve the lives of humans as he passes through their towns (when it's convenient for him; after all, he has more pressing business.)

His current goal - if he can be said to have one - is to pacify the growing chaos in the threshold states as the Realm, reborn Solars, and the Mask of Winters all begin to clash. [If ToT occurs in your game, nothing short of the breaking half of Creation would stop him from making his way to check out Autochthon.]

-Secrets:

He is actually - unknown to Elan himself- the child of a water elemental and a captured lintha pirate (concieved only a few minutes before the elemental finished drowning the lintha.)

Mnemon traded children with a lesser elemental dragon of water - a censor, specificallly - for aid in her endeavors for the throne (believing that with the appropriate celestial pressures, she might find it easier to win her way to the throne.)

The dragon sent her the child of one of his court attendant's instead of one of his own (as was the deal). This was and is unknown to Mnemon and the Sidereals both; the former is powerful enough in Essence to remember her son and still communicates with him - and the latter accord Elan certain respects and latitudes that he would not otherwise have if he was not the direct descendant of the Empress and possibly one day a contender for the throne itself.

Neither party would kill Elan if they discovered his true heritage, but it would cost him socially in Heaven, and his 'mother' would surely attempt to use him to her advantage - or perhaps banish him from her house entirely.
