  • Maylin: *May waits until Zen is asleep, then slips away, going by where Alabaster is to see if he has gone back to sleep*
  • Alabaster Chimes: Alabaster Chimes is lying on his back and staring at the ceiling. Maylin can see his eyes glinting slightly in the darkness.
  • Maylin: *approaches slowly*I keep doing you wrong...
  • Alabaster Chimes: He doesn't look at all surprised to see her. "No, May-chan. Not wrong."
  • Maylin: of course, you were sleeping peacefully before I came along
  • Alabaster Chimes: "I...rarely sleep peacefully." He hauls himself upward, hugging his knees. "The Malfeans send me dreams of Their plans--Their hopes, Their fears, if such words can be applied to Them."
  • Maylin: *scowls* that sounds awful. I can barely handle my own thoughts and plans, much less anyone elses
  • Alabaster Chimes: "It is awful, sometimes. I don't always think what They want is right...but it's hard to tell. Their thoughts aren't like ours..."
  • Alabaster Chimes: On the edge of your hearing, those damned voices start again, chanting blasphemies in long-forgotten languages
  • Maylin: are they the whispers I hear when I'm close to you?
  • Alabaster Chimes: Alabaster's head jerks up. He stares at you for a moment, then says, softly, "You can hear them too?"
  • Maylin: sometimes, when I'm around you and close, or you are thinking hard...yes.
  • Alabaster Chimes: "They're always there for me. Sometimes shouting, sometimes murmuring, and I can only rarely understand what they're saying...but they're always there."
  • Maylin: they don't speak in a language I know. Does anything make them stop?
  • Alabaster Chimes: He pauses, looking out the window. "Dawn," he finally says.
  • Alabaster Chimes: "After Dawn, they're only a whisper."
  • Maylin: just dawn, or do you not know if anything else works? *kneels next to him still only in the sheet*
  • Alabaster Chimes: "I haven't found anything else..." He looks down at his clothing. "And there's...well, I don't know what to call it."
  • Maylin: *scowls slightly in confusion* what else is wrong?
  • Alabaster Chimes: Alabaster Chimes closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. The air in the room grows colder, as a chill wind seems to blow even in the hot night air. Behind him, his shadow grows slightly, its fingers twisting into claws and dripping nameless liquids. Moans and cries follow, pleas for mercy, coming from the very air.
  • Alabaster Chimes: "It's so dark..." "Let me out! LET ME OUT!" "I was a good boy...I was always a good boy!" "How could you do this to me?!" "I didn't know!" "I didn't know!!" "I DIDN'T KNOW!!!"
  • Maylin: STOP IT! Chimes-kun!
  • Alabaster Chimes: He starts--and, like a knife, everything ceases, leaving the room back in peace once more.
  • Alabaster Chimes: "May-chan..." he says softly.
  • Maylin: *is trembling in front of him* what was that...?
  • Alabaster Chimes: "I don't have a name for it..."
  • Alabaster Chimes: "It happens....it happens when I do things the voices don't like. I can tell, sometimes--when I fought those Nephwracks in the Labyrinth, they were infuriated."
  • Maylin: what did you do that angered them now?
  • Alabaster Chimes: "Stayed here." He looks into May's eyes. "With the living."
  • Maylin: No one is making this easy, are they?
  • Alabaster Chimes: He shakes his head sadly.
  • Maylin: maybe...maybe after Rathess there's a way I could...*struggles for the right word* join you?
  • Alabaster Chimes: "Join me?" His brow furrows. "Do you really want to...become like this?"
  • Maylin: I'll be honest, no I don't...but I don't want to repeat Ashraielle's mistake either. We know that SOlars can become Abyssals, but I don't think we'll find anyway to reverse that process. Even if we did...I'd feel selfish asking you to do it.
  • Alabaster Chimes: "In my memories, May-chan, the Lunars and the Solars loved each other, and they came from different worlds." He looks down at the floor. "If they could do it, couldn't we..." His voice trails off, and he looks up. He is smiling.
  • Maylin: I'd like to try...*looks into his eyes*
  • Alabaster Chimes: Alabaster Chimes reaches out a hand towards Maylin.
  • Alabaster Chimes: "I sent you away earlier...because you told me duty was more important than love. But sometimes..."
  • Maylin: *she takes his hand and gently kisses the palm* After you sent me away I went to see Zen because I was so upset...
  • Maylin: She made me realize that I had focused my goal of peace with the Dragon Blooded too singularly...*looks up at him* and I did like the sunset idea.
  • Alabaster Chimes: Alabaster blinks onces, then hurls himself forward and catches May in a tight hug
  • Maylin: *hugs him back one handed* I was so afraid you hated me after what I said...
  • Alabaster Chimes: "I never knew who my parents were," he says quietly, over May's shoulder. "My first memory is of being kicked by a mortician for trying to take some food from an offering to the dead. I was two, maybe three years old."
  • Alabaster Chimes: *winters old
  • Maylin: *smoothes his hair* I'm so sorry...
  • Alabaster Chimes: "I was always on my own. I died as I lived--alone--and Walker in Darkness gave me a purpose and a place. But he never made me feel this way..."
  • Maylin: no offense to Walker, but good. I don't think i could handle that kind of competition *smiles and rests her forehead agianst his neck*
  • Alabaster Chimes: Maylin can feel Alabaster tense a moment, then relax. "Are you only wearing that sheet? You must be..."
  • Alabaster Chimes: He pauses. "It is rather warm here, isn't it?"
  • Maylin: I wanted my clothes to finish drying...this was handy...and yes it is. That's why it's a jungle *giggles*
  • Alabaster Chimes: He pulls back and looks down at himself. "I don't usually take these off...I feel a little uncomfortable without them."
  • Alabaster Chimes: He looks slightly embarrassed
  • Maylin: *smirks* would you rather run around in a sheet?
  • Alabaster Chimes: He grins. "The word you're looking for is 'shroud'."
  • Maylin: sorry, would you rather run around in a shroud? *sticks her tonuge out at him teasingly*
  • Alabaster Chimes: "I feel a little...odd out of the Underworld if I'm not dressed like this."
  • Maylin: the beauty of growing up with barbarians...you can feel dressed so long as your covered slightly *grins* but if you're thinking that I expect you to dress differently, you're dead wrong.
  • Alabaster Chimes: His lips twitch at the word 'dead'. "It's not just cosmetic...do you have anything sharp handy?"
  • Maylin: *shakes her head* I used to have nails, but most broke due to the jungle
  • Alabaster Chimes: "This...may disturb you."
  • Alabaster Chimes: He opens his mouth, and his canines lengthen before your eyes until they are around an inch long and needle-sharp. Without a moment's hesitation, he takes part of his shroud and bites it...hard.
  • Alabaster Chimes: When he removes the mouth from the cloth, it is completely unmarked
  • Maylin: *gulps* thank you for the warning...please only do that in front of me when you absolutly have to from now on....
  • Alabaster Chimes: He nods. "You haven't seen me eat before? I can eat mortal food...but..."
  • Maylin: you've always been careful about that...
  • Alabaster Chimes: "Yes. I understand that many people would find it...distasteful." He smiles slightly. "Most didn't eat what I had to to survive as a child."
  • Maylin: you're being very open all of a sudden...you never liked talkinga bout yourself before
  • Alabaster Chimes: "It's hard to see myself as a person, sometimes, and not an extension of Walker in Darkness' will. When I first met you, I was acting in the latter capacity." He pauses. "But now, I'm here on my own."
  • Maylin: I doubt this was why Walk er sent you to my store *smiles slowly* but I owe him a lot for doing so *leans close and kisses him softly*
  • Alabaster Chimes: He tries to return the kiss, but it soon becomes obvious that Alabaster Chimes has no clue how to kiss properly
  • Maylin: *smiles under it and pulls away slightly* have you danced, Chimes-kun?
  • Alabaster Chimes: "...No, I haven't." Now he does sound embarrassed. "I can sing, but...there wasn't much call for dancing in Sijan."
  • Alabaster Chimes: "...maybe you can teach me?"
  • Maylin: *nods with a smile* of course, there's one trick to dancing...
  • Maylin: follow the other's lead...*kisses his again, slower this time*
  • Alabaster Chimes: He seems to be a quick study
