My name’s Winter. Yes, that’s an alias – rather crude of you to ask, isn’t it? I mean, everyone’s name is an alias here in Nexus. But if you must know, I’m a Cynis. A Dynast. Or rather, an ex-Dynast. Allow me to explain.

Ten years ago, I graduated from the Heptagram. Yes, that Heptagram… ooooh, scary. Let me tell you something – it’s not a sorcery-training school, it’s a lunatic asylum. Full of more bullshit than a Harborhead cattle market – cliques, petty vendettas, everything you expect to find in House affairs, but with mindbending sorcery. And demons.

I did not graduate at the top of my class – such a position is reserved for a Ledaal, perhaps a Mnemon. Not that I care. I picked the Heptagram because it was that, or the Spiral Academy and a life as a desk jockey. If you survive long enough in the Thousand Scales, you can build up some impressive personal power. But I don’t want to wait that long. I want it all, now, and in cash.

So I came to Nexus, where a gentleman of good breeding and discretion such as myself can go a long way in a very short time. They don’t care if I’m not a fighter here, or that my taste in servants runs to the cheap and expendable. They know that I can do what I say I’m going to do, and I don’t have to ask any Gods-cursed House matriarch for permission every time I step out for a piss. It’s the freedom, you see. I love the freedom to do what you damn well please here in Nexus. It’s something you won’t see on the Isle while there’s still one blood descendant of the Empress still alive. And that’s why I renounced them, that’s why I’m never going back. Freedom.

I'm no CB, but here's a quickie sketch of Winter:

I hope the snotty look on his face is retained after the various digital hijinks I put him through. Demon picture later, perhaps.
