Introduction

The stories are spreading amongst the Jackal tribes of the Southeast. That a witch has come to lead the tribes forward to conquest. That the carrion-bird has taken the form of man, and taken the name of a dead shaman. That this beast seeks out the dead and dying, and devours their souls.

Heguli just wouldn't listen. He was proud even as his flesh rotted under the sun. He wrapped himself in cloth and made deals with the lords of death to protect his tribe. He heard the rumors, but he figured that, like much of the Jackel tribe's faith, were little more than delusions brought on by pestilence. No creature would freely associate with the plague-tribes, let alone be able to lead them to what the stories claimed.

It was this arrogance that led him to his path that night.

Heguli walked out into the desert, heading to one of the shadowlands, hoping to speak with one of the deathknights that protected him. In the black of night, he lost his way. Under the moon's gaze, none of the landmarks in day felt right. Soon Heguli found himself lost in the desert, far away from the safety of his tribe. He didn't panic altogether, but having lost his way, Heguli knew he may of been facing the last moon he'd ever see.

Then the vulture appeared on the rocks behind him. Heguli swore the thing came for an early meal by the looks of it. It stared at Heguli with his shining eyes, eyes that held nothing but the patience dedicated to waiting for a creature to die.

Then the beast turned into a man. A terrible bald looking man, with stooped features, a gnarled face and breath that stank of rotted meat. He wore a cape of feathers, and tattoos wrapped around his neck and scalp. The patience in his eyes never ceased however. This was the beast of the tribes, and he had come for Heguli.

"You're already dead, you know. Ever since you decided to make deal with those who would destroy Creation, I've been watching and waiting. When you walked into the desert, my meal told me where to find you. And so here I am, with a nice fresh corpse to feast on. Don't worry though, I'm sure the tribes will take in your wayward flock. After all, they aren't the dead ones."

A crabby old bastard of a No-Moon warlord, Jebe desires to purify the shadowlands, picking at the specteral bones that his lesser brothers miss during their carrion meals. Jebe was a simple shaman amongst the plague-tribes once, who was visited by Luna as he struggled to gather the final secrets from a dying shaman of his tribe.
