Introduction

"I see you Anja. Come out."

The small man was dark skinned, his attention seemingly intent on the small trinket he worked on. As the Lunar moved closer, however, she watched how the light played off of the southerners skin. It glistened as a rainbow: his chitinous skin marking his true nature.

"The council needs..."

"Oh yes. The council needs." The man did not bother to look up, his voice dripping with enough bitterness for her to visualize his expression. "It's not about what I need, it's always about what THEY need. THey seem perfectly happy to despise me for my chosen profession. Not barbaric enough for them. But when they need something dug up, they always come running to me."

"They said you would do it for the challenge."

There was a long pause, and the man lifted his face to hers, black eyebrow lifted high, dung-brown eye suddenly filled with curiousity.

"I'm listening..."

Symbology : Regeneration To Egyptians, the scarab, a type of beetle, symbolized the powers that governed the celestial bodies; a great scarab was thought to roll the sky across the horizon. This belief arose from the scarab's habit of shaping a piece of ox dung into a ball, into which it laid its eggs, an rolling it about -- generally from east to west. Scarablike jewels were often placed in tombs of deceased relatives to give them the power of the sun and to facilitate their ressurection.

The scarab speaks to me of ancient egypt, and thus the idea of a tomb raider appealed to me. Also, the scarab has deep spiritual/mystical connotations, making a sorceror a likely choice. The final result playes well into the "regeneration" mythos, as he "regenerates" the past with his spells, restoring ancient texts... and even translating them.

Other ideas about. Related to the Celestial as the Scarab is, one could picture a 2nd circle sorceror that manipulated the sky, and rivaled the siderials. Further, their symbology of death and rebirth could make for a powerful shaman of the underworld. Full moons are quite possible as well. It isn't difficult to imagine a rapidly regenerating, highly armored bug that devours all, much like the scarabs from "The Mummy."
