Introduction

Her whimper interrupted Lord Quintus. Lord Quintus did not like being interrupted.

He turned on his heel, his long, ornate cloak sweeping through the wretched dust as he did so, and he lifted an eyebrow at the gaurd standing over her. The soldier, realizing he might be in trouble, quickly made to boot her into silence, but she cowered and groveled so that Lord Quintus was mollified.

He continued to pace before them, parchment in hand as he read the fates of the three women, one old enough to have grey streaks in her hair, the youngest barely old enough to mother children. The crowd of villagers behind them clustered close to one another, not daring to whisper to one another for fear of being singled out by the vengeful noble.

"And thus, for conspiring with powers of darkness and for commiting heresy against the most holy and immaculate Order, you are sentenced to death by..."

"Hold on their, chief."

The crowd gasped as a young man squirmed his way to the front. Short and scrawny, his suntanned skin was matched by his scruffy brown hair. His clothes were most assuredly common, that which a farmer would wear, except for the pristine white gloves he kept on his hands. Despite his base dress and his simple appearance, he had a sort of... charisma. This felt more like a joke than a real insult to his lordship, and so Lord Quintus slowly pulled his hand from the hilt of his blade.

"Yes, what is it, farmer."

"Well," he said, giving the ladies a dashing smile "It seems such a waste to slay these beautiful women without even giving them a proper defense, if you know what I mean, m'lord."

Quintus's eyebrow raised, and then a laugh escaped his lips.

"And who would defend witches, boy!"

The kid tilted his head as though thinking, and then announced "I would."

The lord's eyes narrowed hard. "If you do so, you will share their fates."

Suddenly, a huge grin split the young man's face, and his eyes sparkled with anticipation. "Fighting for my life and theres against impossible odds? Even better."

White-gloved Jack

Symbolism : Power, abundance, heroism, seasons, cycle of life.

In the Chinese Zodiac, the rabbit is the most propitious sign; those born under the rabbit are thought to have considerable power. In many cultures, the rabbit is a lunar creature with feminine energies whose outline can be seen in the face of the full moon. Many Native American rabbit myths tell of the hare returning the sun to the sky and restoring warmth, the patterns of day and night and the seasons, and prosperity.

The rabbit in this painting is Kaltes, a moon goddess venerated by the Ugric peoples of western Siberia.Although this goddess can assume many forms, the hare is sacred to her.

It's often said that Lunars are not good in the social arena. While certainly not as powerful as the Solars for sheer leadership, and often lacking the Dragon Blooded connections, they can most certainly be a force to reckon with when it comes to talking and trickery.

Jack was an attempt to show one way this could be done. One thing in particular to notice is that he has an Perception charm to aid him in this endeavor. Perception charms are often over looked, and can help a Lunar with anything from battle to magic to socializing well.

The rabbit can be many many things. I chose to play with the "heroism" concept, and mix a little of Bugs Bunny's audacity in there to create our small, witty barbarian hero. Other possibilities include the swashbuckling, dering do hero who relies on luck as much as skill (the rabbit is a very lucky animal), or a master seducer (if rabbits know anything, it's sex), or a quirky and fun Moon Shaman.

I find it difficult to take a Rabbit totem seriously... but that's half the appeal. Not all lunars SHOULD be serious. Alot of them should be fun !
