Jago Khan

A practioner of the Golden Ape Style, from Chiaroscuro. A tall, heavily muscled man with deep black skin and short kinky dreadlocks. Jago Khan is friendly and open but also arrogant and vainglorious. He takes his martial arts very seriously but like most Golden Ape practitioners, he also appreciates the value of being able to laugh at oneself. And everyone else sometimes, too, which hasn’t always made Jago popular. In Chiaroscuro, Jago is part of the underground pit fighting circuit, where he is highly ranked. Though he is unable to manipulate Essence, he is very good at martial arts and he is powerful and fast as any mortal could be.

Golden Ape Style imitates the movements of the great apes who live in the jungles and savannas of the South. Golden Ape martial artists concentrate on hand strikes, low kicks, throws and graceful acrobatics; it vaugely resembles Capoeria. Movement is made low to the ground and practitioners will walk on their hands as often as their feet. It is a versatile but not widely practiced martial art as it is often considered ‘undignified’.

Summer’s Last Storm

A ghost-blood daughter of Sijan and a practitioner of the Shadowed Foot Style. Tall, thin and spindly, Summer’s Last Storm moves with a smooth, almost unnatural grace while engaging in combat. When not in combat, she is awkward and shy, which makes her seem even younger than her 20 years. Summer’s Last Storm was born to a mortal mother and a ghostly father in the funerary city of Sijan. She trained in the martial arts under the dead masters of Sijan's guard, and has proved to be very capable.

Shadowed Foot Style emphasizes fast and powerful kicking. Practitioners of Shadowed Foot move slowly and deliberately in a high, upright stance, constantly raising their knees to the level of their chest in preparation for kicks or feints. When they move to the attack, their measured pace explodes into a whirlwind of kicks; when a technique is finished, practitioners return to their slow defense kata.
