General Background

Background and Goals

The short version, so Zack can start coming up with ideas.

Was formerly a mid-level bureaucrat doing his best as a cog in the whole satrap system in Chiaroscuro. The usual corrupt bureaucrat, of course, and getting quite wealthy doing so, taking money from almost everyone who had to deal with him.

His change of heart came in possibly the strangest manner event to ever occur in his little kingdom, brought on my a strange force. Specifically, Solar Exalted. He pressed too hard on the wrong person, and, as a solid golden disc broke out shining on the man's forehead, he realized that he was, quite irrevolcably, doomed.

A few moments later and after quite the scolding from The Unconquered Sun, he bore a mark on his forehead as well, and found himself being dragged bodily out of the city by the Dawn until they were forced to split up. The man, a gaffer with grey hair and arms like toothpicks, drove through an entire squadron of guards with a single Wavecleaver Daiklave, broke past the wall of the city, and disappeared into the desert. The hapless Ruby Hand found himself fleeing to the west, thankful that the elder man had provided such a distraction, and that he had been able to slip out of the city, not quite realizing what a mark he had made as well; enough of a mark for others to follow.

One followed, a single person, lost in the crowd of the city amazed at what had just happened. the bureaucrat was presumed dead at the hands of the old man; few had seen him leave, and only one had paid attention. A person with violet eyes...

Brok made it to Blue Haven before the Sidereals could decided what to do with him; the deliberations had taken a while, as the force with which he had regained his former spirit was astounding, and their were questions as to what he had remembered, questions which took time to answer. He made his way there with the same tools he had always used, except with a different intent in mind; he mimiced the actions of the old man, finding the corrupt officials in a city and then threatening them, shakin gthem down for money, enough to continue his journey. His own wealth had been almost completely left in Chiaroscuro, and, he was nearing the end of his resources when he found himself with nowehre further to run, and, was beginning to wonder what he would do now. He still felt rather lost, and lacking direction, until someone arrived to give it to him.

One of the offficials he had extorted foudn the man still in the city, and ofund it disquieting; he decided to hire some friends to kill him, including calling in a favor from a Terrestrial Prince, who he had made certain to go out of his way for several times, at risk for himself, in return for favors at an unspecified time, and the man readily assented. The chase when Brok noticed the knife held low in a hand took him through the darker sections of the city until he ran into a building he believed to be random - but the resident did not. The resident, the Sidereal who had arranged for this to happen. The building, a forgotten fighting school burned in a riot years ago, now in the middle of slums. He rushed in, and saw nothing but a man ith a young face but pure-white hair meditiating in the middle of the dojo, who had not even noticed him coming inside. He continued racing through, only to find he had been blocked in, and there was nothing but the Dragon-blooded, two elite soldiers, and a man who had closed himself off to the world.

The enemies advanced slowly, the sneering lader of them drawing a sword and flicking it casually to take the sitting man's head off and remove the last witness.

He wound up impaling himself instead on his own sord, as the martial artist, with eyes closed, had caught the weapon by the blade and diverted the slash, slamming it back into it's owner. The man tried to retaliate, but sagged, and the man took him apart with six slashes from a concealed golden sword in the barest of moments, before his two companions had even noticed the first attack had failed.

All three of them were dead before the pieces of the first hit the ground. This was how Brok met his teacher, Knife of Ivory Seas. Nobody entered or left the dojo for a full year, while Brok remained, learning philosophy as well as fighting, and being carefully guided along his new mission by the Gold Faction Sidereal, prodded along in his own aims for power, but concealed beneath the language of purging the South from darkness; a tool to be held and set along a ne path, one that he could maniulate merely by the right phrase of philosophy, to guide his thoguhts to a supposed offense, or when there was great need, pointing someone out by name, and even, occasionally, making use of his old skills to work his way in a government to find the information needed, to watch the right person, before setting forth again, content to believe that he was merely making full use of his skills.

For meeting the man, there are several places, all identical, where they usually meet; ramshackle dojos, long since abandoned, where nobody else enters or follows, where the man may or may not be waiting for him, and the call for Brok when he is wanted is simple and direct, on his soul itself, telling him he should go to the nearest one possible to talk to the man.
