Session 7: Brainstorms and Thunderstorms
Session 7 begins on the 18th day of Ascending Water, with Platinum Sky Lover attempting to find the other members of the Directional Convention of Water, and possibly get an appointment with some high-ranking Haruka, trying to make headway on an increasingly urgent assignment: making that Absolutely Irritating Fleet Die Already. In one of those Occasionally Helpful twists of Fate, she narrowly misses bumping into Hidden Crystal, who was on his way back from a fruitless errand of his own, attempting to find the office/department of error corrections in order to try to file an extension, against all possible contingencies: however, no one seemed to know where it was, in a typical demonstration of bureaucratic red tape. She drags him off to go find their circlemates: first, they find the pod containing an Essence-training Jiang. Surprisingly (though perhaps wise in this case), they do NOT kung fu it open in order to drag their hapless leader out by his hair, but instead go to find Silent Sunset at his manse. When they arrive, they are delayed a short while, as Silent has them shown to a waiting room. Evidently, he is currently tied up (sadly for unrealized humor possibilities, not literally), and cannot see them: Platinum begins to get impatient with the delay.
Silent, in the meantime, is having breakfast with his new Raksha girlfriend. A very expensive breakfast, no less: Dilari of the Sea Foam is quite a high-maintenance lady, to say the least. Over breakfast, they have a philosophical chat about the nature of strong vs. weak, submission, independence, and What The Hell Nehemeth Was Thinking When She Gave a Sidereal A Raksha Pet. Namely, a show of strength and her station, and the dominance of her will. During the midst of this, the hapless Endbringer is informed by his familiar of the arrival of two of his Circlemates: hastily, he has them shown to a waiting room, and asks Dilari to please stay hidden in his manse, as he has no desire for her presence to be Found Out yet and to remain a Very Big Secret. After much puppy-dog eyeing and complaining that she will be bored, the Fair Folk goes to the library, and Silent goes to meet with his Circlemates.
Upon his arrival, he has barely managed to apologize for the delay, before the somewhat temperamental Chosen of Serenity rips into him with harsh words-accusations of lies and whispers and destroying trust. Poor Silent is caught on the defensive and is rather confused, stretching the truth almost like a man who has his mistress hiding in another room: Crystal simply remains silent, judging it wise to NOT get into the midst of this argument. Silent continues to squirm, trying to deflect his Circlemate's attempts to pry, only saying that he was hosting an envoy of enemies of a "certain royal personage": thankfully, Platinum lets the matter drop, so they can get on with the Very Important task of Totally Annihilating a fleet in the name of Fate. After some discussion as to what to do, three options soon come up: destroying the fleet through a storm-as it was supposed to be destroyed in the first place-, somehow screwing it over through assassination and impersonation of the fleet admiral, or drop a Solar bomb on them through offering it as a convenient target for Glorious Sunrise, the Solar sorceress on the verge of gaining Solar Circle Sorcery when last encountered at the First Age tomb, to test out a mighty spell or two on. This last option is nixed fairly quickly: the Circle ends up going with a plan to assassinate the admiral, have one of their own take her place-Jiang, with his capabilities as a master of disguise, is volunteered in his absence to play the soon-to-be-deceased admiral-and order the fleet out into a mighty storm that they will have, in the meantime, arranged.
After determining that they need to do recon and gather information, particularly on Peleps Yolan herself and her staff, the three depart for an audience with Zosmei, the storm mother of Laughing Thunders spirit court, to arrange for a storm, in addition to sending a memo to the Bureau of Nature, countersigned by whoever ordered the breach of destiny repaired. Platinum Sky Lover, as the one most knowledgeable about the formalities and such, speaks for the Circle: while at first she tries flattery and flowery words, Zosmei requests that she get to the point, as they have no use for such, and Platinum does indeed get straight to the point, stating the circle's need for a mighty storm to sink the fleet: in exchange for such, Zosmei requests that the Circle slay the serpent Ka'la'desh. The deal is sealed, and the Circle is provided with necklaces that will help them with their difficulty in breathing underwater.
The session closed with them on their way to slay the sixty-foot, acid-spitting sea serpent that likes eating elemental. Once that is dealt with, then they will be able to deal with the Fleet That Will Not Die, with (hopefully) subtle violence, their mastery of kung-fu, and a Cunning Plan That Will Not Fail: sadly, there will likely be a lack of fire, but maybe the abundance of lightning, lashing winds, and torrents of rain will make up for it?
