Foreword

I'd originally planned to try and write this up like the castebooks, with little vignettes for each character and their adventures. That fell through, but I'm still fairly happy with how things turned out. None of these characters are particularly groundbreaking, but I like them all. Of some note is the fact that they are all women -- this is somewhat bizarre, since not only have I never played a female PC, but I tend to create characters in a 1:1 male:female ratio.

My favorite is probably Yieng, since I like her name and I think her backstory is the neatest. Fox was the most fun to write up; the narrative just flowed right along. I ended up liking Sealis a lot more than I thought I would. Sapphire and Quail represent two of my earliest Exalted character ideas that actually included interesting schticks; I expect that some people may consider them somewhat problematic, mainly due to their Charm selections and the fact that Quail is practically the antithesis of an heroic character.

I was also pleased with how the supporting cast turned out; I especially like Fei Tau. As with Yieng, I think he has a nice-sounding name, and there's something about the image of a serpentine dragon meditating in a Zen rock garden which I find incredibly appealing.

There are illustrations which go with each of the main characters; Quail, Yieng, and Fox each have fairly large, detailed pictures, while Sapphire and Sealis have sketches. (You can find these on Alabrax's Exalted page.)

I don't know if I'll ever actually use these characters in a game, but it sure was fun to make them up. Hope you enjoy them, too.
