Soul's Armor Amulet

Artifact 2, Commit Special

Repair: 2

Rarely constructed, the Soul's Armor Amulets were first designed in the later days of the First Age, by an unnamed Solar artificer who no longer trusted his Dragon-Blooded lieutenants and wanted to create better warriors without bothering with the intricacies of empowering mortals. Instead, he designed the Soul's Armor Amulets as the ultimate in disposable warriors. These devices were never popular in the First Age, and they remain unpopular in the present day. The Realm, the primary potential user, considers these amulets to go beyond what should be allowed to standard mortals, and Lookshy has sufficient Dragon-Bloods that they do not feel the need to design such wonders. Instead, it is the occasional Lunar, and the newly returning Solars who are likely to get the best use out of these artifacts.

The Soul's Armor Amulets appear to be extremely complex variants of an aegis inset amulet; any trained thaumaturge is capable of telling the difference between the two artifacts. They require the same surgery and apply the same life-draining effects on mortals as a normal aegis-inset, but have an additional requirement: upon implantation, the mortal reduces her Permanent Willpower by 1. This reduction does not apply for the purposes of increasing Willpower with experience points or for determining maximum Willpower, but otherwise functions normally. In addition, the mortal loses one channel from her highest Virtue. Any mortal equipped with this amulet may attune to an armor with an attunement cost of up to 10 motes (including Common or Scout warstriders).

Essence users who attune to the Soul's Armor Amulet replace the mortal benefits and penalties entirely; instead, they may choose to commit one Willpower to an armor instead of up to six motes. These amulets cannot be installed alongside aegis-inset amulets.
