Demons
Souls and spawn of the hate-filled Yozi, demons fill the reaches of the City of Brass, Malfeas, and work their incomprehensible lives when they aren't being summoned to slave away for the Exalted. Similar to the gods who were patterned after them, but twisted by their time as the denizens of Hell, they seek to enslave the Creation that overthrew and imprisoned them.
General Revisions
- Unlike in standard Exalted, demons have lower Essence scores overall. First Circle demons are Essence 2-3, Second Circle demons are Essence 5-6, and Third Circle demons are Essence 8-9. A very few demons manage to acquire authority enough to cross the boundaries, briefly having an intermediate Essence score as they transition, but this is extremely rare, as such a demon must be adopted and integrated by its new patron.
- Demons do not, as a rule, develop new Traits; while they are able to learn, they don't retain such knowledge well. However, by training and changing their natures, they can change one Trait into another through extensive effort.
- Demons are built using the same rules as gods, except that they can only use their Backing with their Yozi patron to improve their Traits. If a demon's (Cult - 1) is greater than her Backing, she may use it instead. As a rule, most First Circle demons are Backing 0, while those who are recognized citizens of Malfeas are Backing 1. Second Circle demons always have Backing of 2-4, depending on their status, while Third Circle demons invariably have Backing 5 and fetiches always have Backing 6.
Charm Revisions
- Demons follow the same Charm progression as gods, and also have the same area-effect increasing Charms as gods.
- The demonic Second Excellency is based on a demon's ability to overcome her own limitations in the name of her Yozi patron. It allows her to ignore all internal penalties to an action for 2 motes.
- Many demons possess unique powers, capabilities, and bodies. These are typically modeled through the use of Wyld mutations and 'Charm' effects that are permanent. Any permanent magical effect costs one Charm, while mutations may be purchased by trading in Attributes or Charms (one Attribute or Charm traded in provides up to five points of mutations). Cosmetic mutations are not purchased in this manner, as they are simply a matter of demons not being human-like.
