In the First Age, there was a powerful Solar of the Eclipse Caste named Jiula. Born mute, she nonetheless Exalted in the dangerous days after the end of the Primordial War. As she gained renowned for her beauty and talent, a Changing Moon craftsman named Kallas Skystrider fell madly in love with her. Kallas found the demon Benegiere, and sacrificed his own voice to her to be woven into the purest indestructable strands of hair, which he used as a base for an orichalcum violin, with moonsilver patterns running down its side. The violin he presented to his love, who accepted it with joy. It is said that their sonatas were among the most beautiful in the world.
When the violin is played, its magical strings call upon the soul of the fiddler, letting their own thoughts range free. As long as the fiddler shares the emotions of the song she plays, it can be heard clearly over a distance of up to half a mile, no matter what other sounds intervene, and anyone who hears it must succeed at a Temperance roll (difficulty 2) or feel the same emotion, taking a -2 die penalty to any actions that go against that emotion. In addition, Performance rolls made under these conditions gain a +2 die bonus. The character may reflexively choose to reduce the distance over which the violin can be heard, down to that of an ordinary violin.
