Wyld-Manipulating Charms

Laying The Silver Path

Cost: 20 motes, 2 gossamer, sometimes variable XP, Mins: Ring 4, Way 3, Essence 4, Type: Simple
Keywords: Combo-Basic
Duration: One Story Or Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Perfect Reckoning Technique, Translucent Dream-Sheathing Technology

The character reaches into the depths of the Wyld, twisting and shaping as she wills, in order to create a safe place for any who wish to pass. The Charm targets a single Waypoint, which may not be part of a Freehold not owned by the user (unless the owner of the Freehold accepts) and which may not be occupied by an Unshaped. The Waypoint becomes a place of safety, taking on a slight silver sheen. To the eye, the region may be a simple pathway, a pleasant campsite, or anything else. Within this waypoint, the following rules apply:

 • No shaping attacks may deal shaping damage here; this is a perfect defense against shaping damage. Note, however, that shaping attacks may still be used, and clever raksha may trick inhabitants of a waypoint into believing that damage has been done.
 • Any character wishing to make a physical attack must spend 1 Willpower per attack.
 • The natural mutating effects of the Wyld do not occur, although shaping effects caused by Fair Folk do (and are as transitory as usual).

Furthermore, if two linked Waypoints each have this Charm active on them, the Journey between them is also guaranteed to be safe, in the same way. For any effect not listed above, the region is considered to be part of the Wyld as usual, although it is treated as one level less than it actually is for the purposes of Wyld-Shaping Technique. All beings, whether Fair Folk or Creation-born, are affected by the Silver Path. No Freehold may have more than one Waypoint per level of the Freehold covered by a Silver Path; any attempts to lay more simply fail.

If Laying The Silver Path is used in the Borderlands or Middlemarches, the character may spend XP to 'mutate' the waypoint, permanently altering it. If so, the Silver Path must either begin in a Freehold, or a waypoint directly bordering Creation. The cost for this is 1 XP in the Borderlands and 2 in the Middlemarches. In such a case, the waypoint lasts until some raksha uses extremely high-Essence Charms to destroy it; any effect designed to permanently destroy Waypoints suffers an external penalty equal to the Charm-user's Essence score. Raksha who begin creating any real number of Silver Paths are likely to earn an incredible slew of enemies among both shaped and unshaped fae.
