Greyfalls is in the curious position of having both jade and silver currency in circulation. As much as the Realm would like to insist that silver currency isn’t touched in Greyfalls except by foreign merchants handing it over to official money-changers, such a situation is extremely implausible, especially given the Guild’s interest in Greyfalls within the last two decades. As such, both silver and jade are acceptable and commonplace currency in Greyfalls. Generally, silver is used for day-to-day purchases and jade is used in official transactions or huge purchases—this is because silver is just less valuable than jade is by several orders of magnitude. Silver’s bulky, but if you lose it, so what?—there’ll always be more. All of the House allowances in Greyfalls are paid in silver, except for those allowances being paid to Houses Mnemon and Sesus, which are paid exclusively in jade. Remember: Dynasts don’t carry their own money. They purchase things by agreement and have their Houses and servants pay up their tabs at the end of the month.
