== Why Doesn’t Captain Larceny Steal the Ledaal’s Toys?

It’s pretty simple: most valuable artifacts—those jade items rated at Artifact 3 or higher, and all items made of the Anathema’s Magical Materials—are tagged in case they’re stolen. The Dynasty has (at least and generally only) one item that works along the same lines as a hearthstone compass, except that it’s tuned to a specific artifact. These tracking devices are about the size and width of a silver dollar and made of blue jade with a red jade disc in the center. When the red jade button is depressed, it starts to move fluidly and light plays across it, giving the coin’s bearer a precise direction for where the artifact it’s attuned to is located. These items, called Pasiap’s Roses (so named after compass roses and the Dragon of Earth), are often stored locally for less-important items and centrally, in the Imperial City, for items of great significance. For example, the Immaculate Order holds the Rose for the Eye of the Fire Dragon, and the Wind-dancer carries the Rose for Tepet’s own daiklave. A larger pedestal-shaped artifact called a Five-Thorned Rose Bush (Artifact 3, as opposed to Artifact 1 for a Pasiap’s Rose) can be used to attune items to Roses. Most of the Realm’s great cities have at least one Five-Thorned Rose Bush, and Greyfalls is no exception. An Exalted daughter of House Ledaal, Ledaal Catala Redonda, operates Greyfalls’ Five-Thorned Rose Bush, which is housed in the Curia.
