Dordranil

The nation of the forest folk, in the northeast of the Haltan kingdom. Encompassing the city of Aubernus, and all outlying kaldorei territories.

Aubernus

Deep within the Haltan kingdom. Place of magic, city of the moon, the city that sleeps beneath Luna's watchful gaze. City of the people that have become known as the forest folk, or kaldorei, forged slowly over a long period of time ever since the lunar known as the Elk of Dusk and Luster fled during the Usurpation. After he fled the Elk toiled long and hard, turning this large demesne just outside the borderlands into a place of magic, with the help of his sons and daughters.

Here the Elk of Dusk and Luster and his offspring lived in tune, living above an essence rich pool, called the moonwell, several springs of which are caught across the gloriously green and white stoned city. When the kingdom of Halta was formed, the Elk offered them his support. Humans flocked to the magical and deeply spiritual city where they devoted themselves to nature and the service of Luna. Over time the essence of the rich demesne along with interbreeding with the sons and daughters of the Elk, created a whole new breed of mortal man.

From these essence rich waters has grown a huge tree, taller and bigger than any of the haltan trees normally would grow, if seen from bird's eye it towers above even the massive haltan treeline. This is the manse that harnasts the demesne's power. The society reverently call it the life tree.

Tall like the trees of halta, tinted in various shades of the natural blues, purples and greens of their natural environment, with long ears and glowing eyes to help them see in the dark depths of the forest. Though in most ways merely mortals, these were dubbed forest folk by the rest of the kingdom of Halta. Because of the potent blood circulating inside the small society, the moon tree, or their deep devotion to nature, these Haltan kaldorei have gained a semblance of immortality. While they are not immortal by any stretch of the imagination, they have the lifespans of trees. Needless to say, they can grow quite old.

Although the city is part of the kingdom, it remains self governing to a great extent. Inside the cities, moonwells are used for rituals and offerings to the patron goddess Luna, and people work diligently in her service. Wood spirits sometimes older than the Elk himself, huge beings of lumbering might and ageless, though somewhat slow, wisdom roam. The dryads and sons of the moon, elk men and women with centaur bodies dwell here. It is truly a place of wonders.

The city is to some extent matriarchical, as their goddess Luna is female. Only females are allowed to join the ranks of Luna's faithful, and again only females are allowed to become hunters, wardens and sentinels, the military divisions of the citystate. Males are hardly neglected or oppressed though, and they fulfill many tasks from soldier to fisherman to druidry. In fact the circle of Dusk's druids is almost entirely compromised of males. Although lately the gender divide has been blurred somewhat, with the turmoil stirring across Creation. Males and females are joining the divisions where their respective strengths lie.

Aubernus is also somewhat rich in potent blood, compared to a lot of other places. Beastmen, spiritblooded and even terrestrial bloodlines from outcaste wood aspect dragonblooded who went to live in Aubernus all intermingle. Even for those without such innate power, the city has the secret of a special brand of thaumaturgy.

Although a seemingly very powerful city state, the distinct nature of the fair folk of Aubernus keeps them from expanding rapidly, therefore even after all this time the city state is still relatively small, though potent. Certainly enough to deter would be enemies from ransacking the place, but hardly enough to go wage wars of conquest on the rest of Creation.

Indeed despite it's power the city state is not without it's problems. Founded dangerously close to the wyld borderlands, one does not need to travel far for Creation itself to slowly unravel, ever so slowly corrupting the pristine nature the further one travels in that direction. There is a tenuous peace with the raksha who live beyond, but sentinels and hunters are ever vigilant against threats, and there have been quite a few.
