Enchantress/Sot-Har

Commonly known as Ethereal Hounds in the Second Age and even then only known of by most people through the cautionary tales that mothers sometimes tell their children. The Sot-Har are not like the creatures that the Primordials made after them. They have no definable shape in their true form beyond a swirling mass of ill defined shapes comprised of jagged angles.

How the Sot-Har came to be known as “hounds” is a mystery, though their given name is an apt one if it refers to their relentless pursuit of those they consider to be “prey” or maybe some hapless mortal once saw the twisting shapes resemble razor sharp teeth.

Regardless of how terrifying may seem from stories, their kind chose the wrong side in the Primordial War and their surrender conditions stripped them of the ability to freely take on a material form. Without being able to take on a material form they cannot feed, fight or procreate- and while their Primordial creator made them immortal they lack the mind to process millennia of experience and those that haven’t been in hibernation tend to be insane.

In spite of this it would be unwise to consider them to be rendered harmless for after a few centuries of starvation they were approached by an ambitious Solar who realised that the Sot-Har- not being spirits were immaterial beings that could come and go as they pleased. In return for this espionage the Sot-Har were allowed to take shape in order to feed upon mortals- those who dared to peer into the spirit realm and saw them and to hunt one hour a year. Thus, midnight on the third night of Calibration became a time where people simply disappeared without a trace.

Sot-Har Void Armour, artifact rating 1-5 dots

One of the ways the Sot-Har have to cheat their geas...
Void Armour looks to be little more than a suit of armour on closer observation it seems to be curiously sealed completely shut from the inside- The Sot-Har can crawl into this seemingly useless armour from the inside in order to interact with the physical world. However this relocation into the armour constricts their power them and reduces their effective essence to no greater than the armour's artifact rating.
A theoretical NEnchantress/Sot-Har/A armour could allow them to walk the world again with their full power intact- most of them with the power and the sanity to appreciate such a notion realise that with their crafting limitations it's impossible and many are hibernating until the Yozis break free.
However a few still remember how one Solar helped them before and they have a tendency to do the impossible...

Atakanah, sample Sot-Har (work in progress)

Despite being one of the youngest of her kind, Atakanah still vaguely recalls a time before the First Age when she could seep freely into the corporeal world to hunt for sport. During the First Age she was one of the first Sot-Har to adopt a more human persona to better interact with her new master serving as a mouthpiece for those who were less cordial in their dealings with the Solar. This new persona had one serious weakness though, Atakanah couldn’t really hide her inhuman glory from the Solar Exalt – the human form and mannerisms she adopted were a mask and nothing more.

After the First Age ended, Atakanah went into a state of hibernation and she could’ve slept forever until being disturbed by the construction of an Immaculate Temple and the nearby village had grown into a town. After sleeping for so long her power was a fraction of what it once was- she needed to feed, not just on Calibration and not just on those mortals foolish enough to gaze beyond the boundaries of their limited existence.

In her desperation she pledged her allegiance to one of the Dragon-Blooded – she would tell him the secrets of the world and he would ensure a quantity of the drug Bright Morning would frequently find its way into mortal hands. This relationship has gone on for a decade now, Atakanah has been kept sufficiently satiated to form a small cult and she’s sought out Nali one of her more amicable kin the hopes of acquiring some Void Armour of her very own but in return Nali wants to master his own hunger- he estimates that feeding upon an entire town of mortals would give him the strength necessary to forge armour of the quality that Atakanah desires.

Now Atakanah wonders if she’s willing to sacrifice her allegiance with the Dragon-Blooded and her mortal cult to turn the town around the Immaculate temple into Nali’s feeding ground.

Atakanah typically aranges her shape into a human form with varying degrees of accuracy, sometimes it's little more than a mass of shapes with a humanoid outline. Other times she'll appear almost human were it not for the sharp angles of her shapes that mar the imitation.

Unusual traits

Inhuman Willpower: Sot-Har may spend any number of points of willpower for additional successes on any dice pools. Though the consequences of them running out of willpower are far greater for them than most.

Incorporeal: Sot-Har have no physical bodies being sustained entirely upon their essence and willpower, damage dealt to them is doubled and resolved directly upon their mote pools.
If their mote pool reaches 0 then their essence is dispersed, only to reform in a number of days equal to their essence.
If their temporary willpower is reduced to 0 they’re immediately destroyed.

Materialize: Though not spirits the Sot-Har are normally considered to be dematerialized at all times. They may only materialize (at no essence cost) at midnight on the third night of Calibration and to feed upon mortals who see them while dematerialized. Exalt charms that force materialization effect them as normal.

Notes

The Sot-Har are an exercise in *weird* even by Primordial standards, loosely based on Hounds of Tindalos
