Autochthon’s “journal”
I know I’ve repeatedly brought up the idea of people creating their own version of Exalted and recently I’ve had an idea on the subject. This is a N/A artefact, there's no sensible way it could be anything else.
Introduction
During the Primordial War the Great Maker Autochthon experimented in secret with the concept of creating Exalted essence shards. Despite the secrecy of his work he feared his brothers and sisters would learn of it before he had completed his research and it would all be for nothing.
The Living Record was programmed to go to the Unconquered Sun in the event that Autochthon’s treachery was revealed to the other Primordials.
As no such discovery was made, Autochthon abandoned the Living Record somewhere in Creation should he need it again for some reason in the distant future. Unaware of his upcoming troubles with the Solar Deliberative the Great Maker never returned for it.
Recently the Living Record resurfaced in Whitewall, while the Syndics were attempting to learn of its function from the other Gods they unwittingly revealed it was in their possession and it was promptly stolen.
Character Motivation
Unsurprisingly virtually every single god in Creation will want the Living Record, either to create their own Exalted or to keep it away from those who would use their Exalted to upset the balance of Creation.
Most Sidereal Exalted would see the stability threat posed by such an artefact and would no doubt manipulate other Exalted into questing for the Living Record.
The Living Record
The Relic appears as a large orb, much like the Eye of Autochthon only silver in colour it possesses the ability to turn a mortal into an Exalted of approximately Terrestrial level power.
Exalted Genesis Protocol
Cost: 2 permanent Essence (yes you're reading that right!) Duration: Permanent Prerequisites: Living Record, willing mortal recipient
The wielder of the Living Record donates a substantial portion of her own Essence towards the creation of a new essence shard. The mortal recipient gains a permanent essence of 2 along with a personal and peripheral essence pool. An Exalt created by most beings in Creation will calculate this as though they were a Terrestrial Exalted but it's conceivable that a powerful or determined donor could give more of themselves so that their new Exalted may flourish.
Nature Affirming Procedure
Cost: 1 permanent Essence Duration: Permanent Prerequisites: Living Record
The Living Record draws energy off its host and uses it to reshape their very nature turning them into a fully realised version of themselves. This allows anyone of a supernatural heritage to claim the hidden powers in their blood, a Patrician born Dynast could become a Dragon-Blooded. Half Caste and God Blooded invariably follow their parent's natures and could even become a new Celestial Exalted.
Who would want the Living Record? =
In short- everyone in Creation would have a reason to seek an item of such power in the hopes of utilising it's power or preventing others from doing so. While the Living Record is unbelievably flawed in that it requires so much power, it's conceivable that one could deduce some of it's secrets and be one step closer to creating *significant* numbers of their own Exalted.
Many existing Exalted would likely recognise the threat to the order of Creation, even with the Record's obvious problems the Yozis, Deathlords and Unshaped Raksha have the power and the patience to build an army of Exalted in their own image.
The Lunars could see the Record as an opportunity to learn more about the Exaltation process and in doing so learn more of themselves- particularly regarding their lost castes and Wyld taint.
The Autochthonians would have every reason to consider this a holy artefact and their rightful property. Such a device could be considered the Great Maker’s greatest work.

This idea is pretty darn nifty if I do say so myself. Also, just a query, could the Living Record be used to turn those with dormant Terrestrial Lineage into one of the Dragon Blooded? Because that would be a super awesome plot hook. - ArabianNinja
Thanks, I'm thinking that a device that's as advanced as this would no doubt serve several other functions. Activating a dormant lineage should be well within the limits of it's power. - Enchantress
That's awesome. Just as a thought, since the potential to Exalt is more, shall we say, substantial, it would be reasonable to make the cost to awaken the Dragon would be only 1 permanent point of Essence. As anyone can Exalt, its a matter of when after all, spending 2 Points of essence for a regular mortal is one thing, however when dealing with half-caste, things get... interestsing. - ArabianNinja, providing food for thought in convenient bite-sized peices.
