Cynis Rohan

Cynis Rohan was born to a joyful mother 27 years ago. He was her first child, and Cynis Lila had always been easily excitable with new things. Lila took raising Rohan into her own hands for his first years. The family disapproved, that she might waste her time in such a manner, so she excused herself by accepting the young children of many Dynasts into her fold.

Rohan's father, Peleps Asmus, took little interest in his first legitimate offspring beyond the occasional "show and tell" with other new parents. After a good performance Rohan would receive a pat on the head and a piece of candy and be sent to bed.

Lila looked after all the children in her care but favored Rohan severely. The other children reacted poorly to this, and since Rohan was a slight child he was forced to become adept - for a youngster - at keeping out of sight and out of mind. But he always showed up when his mother sought him out, because he loved and desired the attention.

These skills and desires served him well when he was sent to primary school. Missing his mother and needing attention as he did, Rohan managed to make enemies of most of his classmates and allies of most teachers in record time. He excelled at his studies because it encouraged positive attention from his teachers and his mother, when she came to visit.

Cynis Lila's visits to her first son became less and less frequent as the first years of schooling passed. They stopped altogether when she gave birth to Rohan's first brother, Cynis Sepek. This threw Rohan into a depression in which he assaulted one of the bullies with the greatest followings and then ran. The schoolwide search for the unfortunate skinny brat ended in his Exaltation, as he realized that his pursuers could not find him.

Becoming a Child of Mela only served to make him more recluse, as Rohan found himself more and more apt at not being found. He sorely missed the attention and fondness once showered upon him by his mother, and when he left for the Spiral Academy he was beginning a series of failed attempts to win back her affection. By this point Cynis Lila had lost interest in raising her own children but, in concordence with her duties as a child-bearing Dynast, she had borne a sister for Rohan: Cynis Yara.

Rohan's years in the Academy were not kind to him. When excelling at his academics failed to reattract his mother's attentions, he gave them a low priority, and they stayed there for the duration of his schooling. He tried picking up information and sending useful tidbits back to his house, but it won him nothing. Getting a classmate pregnant only succeeded in angering Rohan's father.

Despairing at ever being endowed with the mother's love he so craved, Rohan ceased trying. He made his way through school in an ever-more dangerous manner, forgoing study for pleasure and passing his exams by cheating. No one caught him stealing the tests ahead of time or thieving his companion's notes.

This is not to say that Rohan didn't learn a great deal about the Imperial bureaucracies. He did, he just didn't care and put much less into it than he could and should have. On rare occasions he will admit to himself that he also liked the excitement of knowing he might be expelled - and what would his mother say then?

Since his graduation from the Spiral Academy, at which many of his teachers had kind words for him, Rohan has accepted an offer to work in the Foreign Office (upon the cessation of his indefinite adventuring, of course), he has wandered the Realm and the Threshold and finally sent back to his House some illicit information worth reading, and spent time shacked up with several different older women of various breeding - his weakness is his thirst for positive attention from women of authority. Men, too, but much less often.

In the last year or so of his travel, he has begun to find a purpose in his nighttime expeditions into others' secrets. He didn't ignore his lessons entirely, and he can see the path the Empire is taking as well as the next Exalt. He has begun to search for clues to the Empress' whereabouts.

He has put some energy into researching her actions for the five years previous to her disapperance - the reports of the magistrates during those years, the last sworn brotherhood she rewarded and for what it was honored, laws passed and denied, and even the distasteful realm of sorcerous activity. He has begun to pick up subtle clues that point at a number of other questions, but he has some ideas of where to go for answers.

Rohan expects to recieve an invitation into the All-Seeing Eye the next time he settles down for a short while in an accessible location. It very well may just be his pride talking, though.

Other details: He has never gotten more than acquainted with his brothers and sisters, and when he was introduced by their mother he became insanely jealous and had to retire to his room before he assaulted one of them. As long as he's in the house Rohan makes a point of dosing their drinks with a weak poison. Just enough to keep them sick and confined to their rooms while he's around. Luckily, his mother likes the sight of vomit and flushed faces no more than she does giving birth, and her children falling ill evokes no sympathies.

Rohan never really made friends in school. He impressed his teachers but always struck them as just barely sycophantic. Any allies he now has are from his wandering days - friends from the road or women he broke with amiably. As his wanderings have been proving increasingly useful to House Cynis they have gifted him with a few familial artifacts and a couple hearthstones. They may wish to revoke them when his current mission begins to take up most or all of his time, but they'll have to find him first.
