Image: An aging Haltan, approximately 50 years old. He wears his hair long and has a full beard. Both are turning from a dark green to a mixture of reds and browns as leaves turn in the fall. He is short (about 5'6") and wirey, but has the calloused sun-worn skin of someone who has spent their entire life working in the outdoors. When dressed for combat he wears a suit of ironwood bark armor made from the toughest redwood and ironwood bark. He normally dresses quite casually in a simple green tunic and trousers, his only ornamentation being a pair of green jade bracers and a large cold-iron necklace.

History:
Ironwood never wanted anything special in life. He had a fairly typical childhood by Haltan standards. Even his Test of Survival was fairly boring, he found a bloodberry bush after his second day and brought back enough for several doses of medication without even seeing a dangerous beast.
Now a citizien, he joined the military. Although he is quite skilled with a bow, he seemed to have an innate ability to encourage the best growth from the sacred redwoods. Thus the arborists took him into their society. He retired after several decades of faithful service and moved in with his friend Charles.
The biggest surprise in his life came when the reservists were callled up for a full-scale war with the Linowan. Throughout the conflict, he set about repairing damage to the trees and defending himself with the bow as necessary. As the army moved further south, he became increasingly angry at the destruction it caused. At the Valley of the Shard he found himself on the front lines when all troops were rushed forwards in desperation. He sent arrow after arrow at a fire-aspected Dynast while the Dragonblooded just laughed and set the trees ablaze until he was felled by one of the Bull of the North's summoned demons.
Iron wept in rage at the destruction of the forest. He ran to the nearest stream to make a futile attempt at gathering water for firefighting. Suddenly, he started pouring the water in a strange pattern on the ground and chanting words he never heard. Before he knew it, it was hours later and the fires almost reached the stream. He shouted a final word and a water elemental of the stream appeared. In a daze, Iron commanded it to fight the fire. With its help, some of the trees were saved.
Later, he looked at the corpse of the Dragon-Blooded. Iron took the man's jade bracers as a reminder of his efforts to save the forest. Many of the soldiers encouraged him to visit the Bull of the North as he was an obvious solar exalt, but Iron had enough of war and declined. Finding that Charles also miraculousy survived, they once again retired from active service and left warfare far behind.
Currently, Iron and Charles live in a village at the border of the Haltan Republic. The village is reknown for its wine, and the two of them often read and discuss topics ranging from the occult to poems at the local tavern, where they make an odd sight (even by Haltan standards).
Note: I picture Charles as having a voice like in the original Planet of the Apes, very snooty/annoying type
