"Say a car plows into an Excrucian Shard at 60MPH. The car gets ripped all to pieces, while the Shard stands there with a quizzical look on his face, because the -car- knows enough to follow the laws of physics but the Shard does -not-.

So the Blatant Lie, for instance, is -truth-. That's why it's so utterly convincing. It's just that a Deceiver doesn't have the concept that truth needs to be true."

- Tony Lower-Basch, on the Excrucians of Nobilis

I dunno. Just a thought on ways to emphasize Fae weirdness. :)

The Blatant Lie, by the way, is a power that allows Excrucians to tell someone something that is totally untrue- and have them believe it, despite all evidence to the contrary. They can be aware that they are under the effects of something altering their perceptions, but cannot use their perceptions to disprove the Lie.

... My god, it's fully of stars and flowers.

The sheer amount of stuff that Nobilis can be mined for making the Fair Folk just hit me at a stagger. The Fae should have Codes (precepts by which they live their lives); Fae should have Bonds that tie them to the shaped world, which informs them of their position therein- somewhat like Fetters. Many an Excrucian Gift is terribly appropriate for them (Unmastered Pain, Blight (except transforming a place into a Bordermarche and pulling it into the Wyld), The Ritual of Two Skins (and the consumate Truth of the Name), the Blind Lie, Perfect Timing...)

Blarh. Happy :)
