Collaborative Content

What exactly is CollaborativeContent in terms of the ExaltedWiki? The goal of a typical wiki to my inexperienced eyes seems to be to try and come up with one "truth" if you will. Whether it be a community trying to document an OpenSource project, trying to get a UserCreated dictionary, the final content, though constantly evolving, is all part of the same MetaVerse. This MetaVerse is a collaborative display of unified content.

Where the ExaltedWiki differs however, is the fact that it doesn't work towards that one UnifiedWhole. PeopleAndPlaces for example, are very often campaign specific. The goal of ExaltedWiki isn't, in most peoples eyes, to present one unified collaborative version of Creation. Instead, it's to serve as an ExaltedCommunity, where people can come and look through stuff they like, and add it to their own version of Creation if they like. And honestly, I think it has to work this way, because it's simply not possible to have OneTrueCreation, which then evolves in 60 different directions when 60 different people try and use it for their home campaigns.

In this version of the Wiki, the expectation is that people can post their content, with the understanding that it will not be changed out of hand. I list the people and places in my campaign for example, with the expectation people can take them and use them as they will, but the presentation on the Wiki is a presentation of how it works in my world. It would make no sense for someone to come in and alter it to something, that whilst it may be cooler, is simply not how it originally worked. Collaboration in this regard is only on readability etc, not the actual content.

Of course, if people viewed the Wiki as creating a collaborative OneTrueCreation, then the expectations would be different. If they knew everything they were adding was going towards defining a unique version of creation, then the barriers are different, but still there. It's now acceptable to edit my locations and move them around, make them cooler, make tie ins with other locations etc, because the understanding is that I put it there to become part of the whole final product. This is a great idea in my mind, but the problem is, it's a little restrictive. How does one post fiction to a Wiki whos goal is OneTrueCreation? How does one post house rules and charms?

I think if we can hammer this stuff out, we can get some sort of understanding and agreement...
