BogModWeapons/StarCatchingFist
Artifact •••••
An elaborate fighting gauntlet that covers more than just the hand but extends up the arm to mid bicep. Unyielding plates of Orichalcum elaborately shaped with celestial imagery cover the fingers, the entire hand, elbow, back of the arm and all around the upper arm before it ends. A dark leather of an unknown beast forming the rest which the arm slips into. The palm itself is inscribed with one of the primal symbols of power first intoned by the Primordials in their forming of the world. This thing used in the strongest sorcerous workings of holding and form.
The Zenith Caste Solar, Sunwa, was a famed survivor of the Primordial War. When Merela was given the Crown of Thunders she took her Gens and left, travelling west across the world eventually settling along the shores of the inner sea northwest of what would one day be Dari. She would rule her own land though it never matched the Ochre Kingdom in splendor or might. 102 years after Merala would compromise with the other Solars over her rule on Meru her land joined the Realm. It was during the time of her rule over the Nefalla Kingdom that she made this weapon and carried it with her to Meru to join the Solar Deliberative. When the Kukla became the first Greater Elemental Dragon she went with her mate and captured the beast. Afterwards she would claim that nothing and no one looked more surprised than the eight pupils of that monster widening in shock when she took its tail and held it in place.
Lauded for her deed even if she lost her mate in the battle the powerful Zenith would see her end during the turmoil of the Thousand Struggles Era. As one of White Jade Feather Society her passing was hardly mourned. Buried with her panoply and many treasures her tomb lay undisturbed until the rise of the Seven Tigers after the Great Contagion. Being carried to the sixth of them by his followers the use of the Sword of Creation would scatter it. Lost for another 300 years before being found, traded, used, stolen and killed over. It was last in the hands of one of the Dragonblooded outcastes in the east who used the weapon nobly, taking ahold of a flood to save the villages of the Hundred Lightning Plains from being washed away. They escaped in time but he had held onto the flood too long and it demanded too much of his strength to hold onto it. He could not fight back when the ones who had hoped to see the flood destroy the people there come for him.
Still the deed was recognized and the weapon put away into the Halls of Lightning but the local deities. The village people of course still tell tales of the man who saved them and stories of the Star-Catching Fist spread slowly out from the Hundred Lightning Plains.
The Star-Catching Fist has all the stats of normal Orichalcum Smashfist. It has a cost of 9 motes to attune to.
In addition the powerful weapon has several powers great and small. Though it doesn't let one see the dematerial the weapon can easily interact with them letting its user strike or grab them. Furthermore any roll made to start or maintain a clinch gains a bonus success. In addition the fist can be considered to have perfect grip in regards to the inanimate. A weapon held in it can not be disarmed, a loaf of bread torn away and no branch over a cliff's edge will slip out from the grasp or break while held in the hand. It lends strength to them so that they can endure whatever forces would seek to pull it from the user preventing damage to it and the user never need worry getting pulled from their feet. No matter the size of what they face if they get a grip they can stay where they are and nothing can pull them off their feet.
Yet these are just a the smallest part of its talents. Its main strength requires one to spend motes to feed its powers. It can grab and hold onto anything physical or energy even things one that should not be held. With the Fist you could reach into a river and stop the current, holding it in place. Closing your hand a breeze could be stilled or even catch the tail of a tornado. A tsunami could be stopped and held in place or if so chosen just grab onto such a mighty wave and let it carry the user. A pillar of fire called down by the Sword of Creation could be caught and held as well before being tossed away. Doing this costs 5, 10 or 15 motes depending on the strength of the thing held for a scene. Arresting the movement of the Kukla for example was surely a 15 mote effort though surviving the Kukla's anger at being caught is another problem. The power functions similar to the Solar Charm Guarding Star Tactics. For double motes one can subdue various energy and physical effects rather than just holding on and holding in place though much less useful against something like an army filling the air with arrows.
