History
Cathay Red Dragon grew up in the Scavenger Land nation of Lao, a small shogunate located south of the Hundred Kingdoms. The daughter of a prominant samurai, Cathay was the second in line after her older brother to ascend to the title of dainyo in the small feudal province. Since the age that she could ride a horse, she trained in the arts of archery, swordsmanship, and unarmed combat. She put her heart into the way of the samurai, hoping to rise to a prominant position as her brother's right hand.
But this was not to come to pass. When she was just fifteen, the shogun died. In the political upheaval that followed, the leader of an opposing clan, known as Raiyu, the Six Devil Master, signed a pact with Hell to grant himself power beyond human reason. He invaded Cathay's home province, and killed her family to the man. The Devil Master spared her, levying a curse of infertility upon her and leaving her wihtout clan, honor, or homeland, so that her family would die slowly with her.
Cathay spent the next three years wandering the Scavenger Lands as a sword for hire, working mostly in Nexus. In her various endevuers, she eventually met a wandering Dynastic kenshi, named Myra Meru. While conversing with the Fire-Aspected student of the Immaculate Arts, Cathay discovered that Myra was in search of an item which Cathay herself knew the possible location of. With this possibility in mind, the two set off to return to Cathay's homeland, so that the young samurai could use her newfound ally's Terrestrial might to help slay the now demon-possessed Raiyu Six Devil Master.
The two traveled to the ancient family shrine of the founder of Cathay's clan. Within the stone structure rested the Red Dragon's Legacy, the ancient jade short daiklave which was once wielded by Dragon-Blooded hero of the Shogunate from which Cathay claimed descent.
However, servants of the Devil Master sought the tomb as well. In the heart of the shrine, Cathay pulled the sword from its casing while Myra Meru battled the demon's minions. And in a flash of red-gold light, Cathay took her Second Breath, and slew the monsters that had attacked her.
Myra Meru was, of course, was very shocked by this event. The two women by this point had spent nearly two seasons with each other, battling the various dangers of the River Province together, and protecting eachother's lives one step at a time. And so as a final token of friendship, Myra Meru allowed Cathay to flee with the Legacy. However, both knew that from then on, the Wyld Hunt would be on the tails fo the newly reborn Bronze Tiger.
Now, when not working with her Circlemates to help recover the glories of the lost past, Cathay seeks to restore her honor and undo her curse. And all the while, the crimson blade of Myra Meru waits for her, the young Dragon-Blooded ever on the Solar Exalted's trail.
Description
Cathay is a young woman of about eighteen years of age. She stands at about five feet and nine inches in height, and bares a lithe athletic build, with a small bustline and a compact frame, which seems skinny to the passive observer. This is not really noticed much of the time, as she most often wears loose-fitting canvas or silk clothing, over which she wears a reinforced buff jacket, leather bracers, and knea pads.
Her dark brown hair is often left relatively messy and uncombed, and she tries to keep it cut to just below her ears. Her green eyes often bare a sad, or tired expression, showing the years of travel and experience beyond many other girls her age usually exhibit. On her cheakbone, below her eyes, she often wears red warpaint, representing the color of her clan, as well as helping to eliviate glare when shooting. Her voice is often soft very soft-sounding, almsot timid. However, in the heat of battle, her voice can carry across much noise and clamour if need be.
Cathay and Her Circle
Due to Cathay's prowess with swords and bows, as well as her mastery of horseback combat, she is often the Circle's close and long-range combat arm. While she will herself deny it, she is also is very adept in getting her Circle organized during times of combat and conflict.
Much of the time, Cathay is with Black Crescent Moon, the Night Caste of the Circle. She finds him a worthy ally and the two share a common set of enemies, no thanks to Cathay. The first is Raiyu Six Devil Master, due to the demon-possessed man hiring Black Crescent Moon to kill the ronin initially. When Cathay nearly killed him in single combat, Moon broke the contract and is now on the list of enemies of the Demon Shogun.
While Cathay feels comradary towards Black Crescent Moon, her feelings towards the other three members of her Circle are a bit mixed. She feels that Acacia is overly zealous towards her cause. The Zenith's aiding the other two more occult-orientated Circlemates makes her more at risk in Cathay's eyes. But she knows that if she sticks with her, Acacia will someday help slay Raiyu. And it is this day that this happens, and Cathay reclaims her kingdom is why she sticks with her.
Cathay is a bit more pesamistic about Omana and Syeed. She feels that they are too focused ont he machines and toys they find and not on how to apply them> Cathay knows that her soul is not only stained with this life's honor, but the honor of the man who previously held her Solar Essence. Syeed and Omana, however, seem to be emphatuated with the wonder of the First Age. Cathay stays with the knowing that eventually, they'll grow up. And the fact that she knows that they will die if she doesn't stay to their side.
