The Reaver, Weapon of the Ancients

The wavy blade of the Reaver has featured in many nightmares throughout the Realm, bringing worries of what precisely became of the cursed blade. The skull-shaped, fanged hilt has bored holes in those dreamers, it's glowing eyesockets promoting the worst fears of patrician and thresholder alike. But now the Reaver is available for use by the Exalts of the Second Age, giving them the ability to star in such nightmares.

A Few Notes

Before we get to stats, I'll give some due credit. The Reaver itself is stolen from a wonderful series of games, The Legacy of Kain Series. It comes in three flavors, the Blood Reaver, it's original form - and the one featured by Kain in LoK: Defiance - is a blood draining weapon, and is rated as being Artifact ***, pretty much a daiklave with a couple useful powers. The Soul Reaver - featured through most of the other games in the series - is rated as being Artifact ****, with even more nifty abilities. The Purified Reaver - from Defiance, and if you care about the plot of that game, be wary, as spoilers are below - is its most powerful form, imbued with a number of elemental magics and granted supreme power. Depending on your preference, the Purified Reaver is either Artifact ***** or N/A.

The Blood Reaver

The Reaver of Blood, the first incarnation of the sword, was originally forged to serve the Solar Exalted in their tasks following the Primordial Wars. At the time of its creation, it was considered an oddity at best, both for the odd design of the weapon and the strange material it had been crafted from. While those who somehow discover it today are likely to recognize it as made of Soulsteel, in the dark ages of the Primordial War, such a substance was relatively unknown save to the insane or the most scholarly of folk. Crafted so that the blade resembles the twisting body of a snake, with a fanged skull for a handguard, the Blood Reaver was considered one of the most gruesome ways to dispose of an enemy, for it not only caused wounds, but leeched their life as well, growing bloated and powerful on their blood.
