Ahkiyyini

Description: The Ahkiyyini were created before the Malfeans had access to the Solar essences that gave birth to the Deathknights. The Ahkiyyini were created out of the vile souls of sorcerers who had gone to far in the living world. In their living days these sorcerers were usually men that used their power for foul purposes or had been driven insane by tapping too much of their own essence. As ghosts they held on to what power they had and were eventually suffused with Oblivion by the Malfeans

After the fall of the Malfeans hundreds of the Ahkiyyini were created and sent throughout the Underworld and Creation to begin the slow and methodical downfall of Creation. Each Ahkiyyini was tasked to bring souls, whether living or dead, into the Well of the Void. The Ahkiyyini were successful early and in the more remote areas of Creation, but quickly put to task by the Solar Deliberative.

The Pillars of the Sun and their consorts destroyed many of the Ahkiyyini. Only a few exist today because of those efforts. Though the downfall of the Solars and then the Great Contagion saw a return to their efforts. Many stayed near the smaller more easily preyed upon villages and barbarian tribes that were not under the protection of Luna’s Chosen. A few were brave and ventured to the Blessed Isle itself. The rise of the Red Empress and the subsequent reassertion of power on the Blessed Isle saw to their quick destruction.

A few Ahkiyyini left in the Threshold and the Underworld still continue with their duties only more cautious than ever with the coming of the Solars and the Abyssals. Many have made pacts with dead and living kings to provide protection from real and imagined threats. Gaining such a position allows them to send souls to Oblivion while providing modicum of security. Others have setup small kingdoms of their own in the Underworld. Demanding tribute in souls to keep their master’s eyes elsewhere. Some of these have been able to gather a sizeable army of hungry ghosts and zombies to do their will. Their sorcerous might and temper cowing many to their will. A handful has been pressed into serving Deathlords, which their Malfean masters do not punish even though the Ahkiyyini were once proud and honored servants.

The Ahkiyyini appear as black robed entities. Their smoky, gray hands the only thing visible outside of their robes. Within their dark hoods lie the depths of darkest night. Two specks of light seem to twinkle somewhere far off within those dark hoods and many have lost themselves forever in the depths of a Ahkiyyini’s bared soul. Smoke drifts lazily from out of the hood’s opening, from where feet should exist, and any other holes within the garment.

Other Notes: Ahkiyyini all possess a Scythe of Oblivion’s Kiss given to them by their Malfean masters. Endless Night and the Smoke of Ages are said to make up the Scythes. Even if not truly made of these things a Scythe’s appearance can entrance mortals with the endless depths that seem to exist within the blade and the wisps of dancing smoke that eternally waft off of its surface.

The Scythe of Oblivion’s Kiss can assert two effects on a victim. The first is banishment of a ghost or mortal’s soul to Oblivion. If an attack is successful and one wound is caused the soul is banished. A mortal instantly withers and dies from the attack and the ghost is sucked toward the Mouth of the Void in the most direct way possible. The Scythe would have the same effect on an Exalt only if the Exalt is reduced to Incapacitated and fails a Willpower roll with a difficulty of two. This effect costs 10 motes and 1 temporary point of Willpower.

The second effect takes 10 motes to activate and causes a person to become mesmerized by the depths of the blade and the wisps of smoke that dance charmingly from the Scythe’s edge. In order to avoid being enthralled by the Scythe the person being enchanted must succeed on a Wits + Resistance roll with a difficulty of 2 if the roll succeeds the Scythe cannot be used to affect the person until the next full moon. If the roll is failed the person stands enraptured by the horrible beauty glimpsed for a number of days equal to the Ahkiyyini’s Willpower minus the person’s permanent Essence score.

Being another form of ghost the Ahkiyyini are able to obtain Arcanoi (Exalted: The Abyssals pages 234-253). Arcanoi that each Ahkiyyini possesses differs among the individual Ahkiyyini. Every Ahkiyyini has 5 Arcanoi from the list in Exalted: The Abyssals to be chosen by the Storyteller. The Ahkiyyini were also given access to the first level of Necromancy by their Malfean masters. Each Ahkiyyini is allowed access to 3 Shadowlands Circle** spells. They also have automatic access to the Arcanoi Waxen Ghostly Form (Exalted: The Abyssals pages 234-235), Nine Terrors Visage (Exalted: The Abyssals page 235), and Weighted With the Anchor of Flesh (Exalted: The Abyssals page 237).

    • These will be replaced by mortal sorcery spells as soon as they are available.
