Indulgent Flame’s Stall

by Moxiane

"Pasiap-be-damned piece of crap!"
- another less-than-satisfied customer
"A mostly-intact pair of Forge-Hand Gauntlets for four jade obols. I call that a bargain."
- Peleps Deknas, foundry owner

The Little Market is an eternally-changing warren of temporary passages and alleyways between stalls, as one owner packs up another moves into his place, and so the cycle continues. Indulgent Flame has been a fixture of the Little Market for almost twenty years, his curio stall findable between sunrise and sunset four days out of five. A grandfatherly man, with a ready smile and bright eyes, he asks that visitors to his stall browse and buy as much as they like.

Like many other such, his wares are varied and often of less-than-sterling quality, but Indulgent Flame has gathered some notoriety due to the frequency with which obscure items of power can be found lurking underneath some useless piece of junk, such as the discovery less than a year ago of the Five-Fold Key of Shades.

Of course, this success has led to numerous attempts by other, less scrupulous sorts, to get hold of these artifacts without paying the generally reasonable prices for them, but every attempt to follow Indulgent Flame back to his home always ends with his pursuers losing sight of him around the Rainbow Spire. The Little Market itself is policed enough by Council-hired mercenaries that any such attempt within its boundaries would be futile.

Rumours

  • Indulgent Flame steals the things that make it onto his stall from people who browse but don’t buy.
  • Despite having been part of the ever-shifting Little Market for over twenty years, his stall is always in one of the same four places.

Secret

  • The jovial, slightly scatter-brained persona that Indulgent Flame has is a front. He is actually a highly calculating and ruthless thaumaturge of the highest-order, and the curios he collects and sells come from the collection of a hoarder that he trapped in a powerful ward twenty years ago.
