House of the Blue Rose

by Moxiane

”Hoity-toity bitches think they’re better ‘n us. We all of us earn our living on our backs, at least I’m honest about it. So, was it just my mouth you wanted, dearie?”
- Switch-Eye, male prostitute
”Oh yes, right there! Ooooh... don’t ever stop doing that!”
- Sparkling Otter, satisfied customer

At the quieter end of Peregrine Avenue, a few minutes walk away from the busier roads and boulevards of Cinnabar, stands a three-floor building of First Age construction, with high gables and steep-sloped roofs. Above the door is a delicately artistic rendering of the flower from which the house takes its name, cut into the supernaturally tough materials, the bright azure undimmed despite uncounted centuries of sun.

Once inside, the decor is elegantly minimal (the furnishings were carefully chosen and geomantically-aligned by Casukon of the Tower), with a faint scent of rose-petals in the air and softly random music played by cunningly crafted wind-chimes. At any given moment two or three stunningly beautiful people can be seen in this reception area, where any potential customers will be met by Dipping Jade Star, the proprietor of Nexus' most discreet, and expensive, brothel. However, to refer to it as such to Star or to any of her employees is considered a high insult - they do not think of themselves as mere prostitutes, for the workers at the House of the Blue Rose only contract out for weeks or months at a time.

Highly skilled, both carnally and socially, Dipping Jade Star's 30-odd employees are in great demand, with even the richest of Nexus' elite often having to wait several weeks before one becomes available. Asking for a specific performer (as many of her clientele do) can increase this waiting period to months. As well as being excellent companions for social events, and aside from their renowned physical skills, these courtesans are also retained to act as educators for the children of Nexus high society.

Rumours

  • Despite his visibility within the upper-crust of Nexus society, and general sensualist manner, Delos Ferrano has not only never patronised the House of the Blue Rose, but its workers will spit at mention of his name.
  • Ginger Torch of The Twisted Cane was recently seen leaving the House of the Blue Rose pushing a cart of "candy moulding equipment", as she described it, scant minutes before a somewhat dishevelled Baron Mkambeno, keeper of The Scarlet Manor, did.

Secret

  • The employees of the House of the Blue Rose are all the sons and daughters of Dipping Jade Star, taught their craft from a very early age and then given a regimen of alchemical treatments designed to keep them looking young and beautiful into their early forties. Dipping Jade Star herself is well into her second century, but the various sorcerous effects she has been submitting herself to are having less of an effect each time.

Comments

Is Dipping Jade Star a Dragonblood? Is it known what she is? -szilard

Not at all. She could be a Dragon-blood, a God-blood, a very resourceful mortal, or something else entirely. It depends on what, if anything, someone who uses this particular entry as a hook or setting piece decides. - Moxiane
