Dragon's Pearls

by BrilliantRain

"Of course it isn't chocolate! Stop asking!"
- Delicate Orchid, when asked about her prize jewel.
"I don't care what you say. One of those is not better than me."
- Alabaster Blossom, one of the more preferred employees of the House of the Blue Rose.

Dragon's Pearls are the most expensive candy in Nexus, but the taste is well worth it. Very few places have the skill to make them. In Nexus, the only places that you can get these wonderful candies are The Twisted Cane, Nice Dreams, and Darque Chocolat. The last place is concidered rather pretentious by most middle-class Nexus citizens, though.

While the recipe for Dragon's Pearls is not widely known, some things can be determined from the finished candy. It is known that the ingredients are uniformly expenisve and of high quality. They include at least five distinct types of chocolate, several kinds of flavoring, and other, more unusual ingredients. The specifics are, naturally, talked about, and rumors abound as to what the actual ingredients are. While the candy is expensive due in part to its ingredients, it is also very difficult to construct. The main difficulty is that, while the center requires a day of work to make, the candy must be very precicely dipped in chocolate, allowing a thin coating of chocolate to form. This step is then repeated over 19 more times, each time with a different chocolate and a different flavor. This would normally cause the flavors to become so intermixed that the candy would taste horrible ... except that it doesn't. For some reason, each combination of flavors is seperate and distinct when first tasted, then seems to combine together into a symphony of taste that many people claim is better than sex.

Rumours

  • The reason the candy is so expensive is that they grind up the pearls of ancient river dragons to flavor the chocolate.
  • "A god makes 'em. Stands to reason. Only a god could make somethin' taste that good..."

Secret

  • The only truly secret ingredient in the candy is the properly prepared extract of The Blue Tongue Orchid, which sharpens the sense of taste and smell to a very high degree for a short period of time and is responsible for the unique taste effects of the candy. Everything else is commonly avilible in Nexus, if you know where to look.
