Resplendent Fire Style

Background

My soul still burns.

Training

This style follows Ascending Fire as one month follows the other, but it is definitively a seperate style. Unlike its athletic predecessor, there is no movement at all in Resplendent Fire Style. The elemental expressions of this style stem entirely from internal meditation and manipulation of the student's inner fire.

Weapons and Armor

Bare hands or things that are like striking with them but heavier (cesti, fighting gauntlets, iron boots, artifact versions, etc). Armor is all good.

Complementary Abilities

All charms of this style require Lore •••••. A character must know Elemental Bolt Technique, Crypt Bolt, a Solar equivalent, or the Lash of Wind charm from Resplendent Air style to learn this style. Elementals automatically qualify due to The Dragon's Suspire.

Charms

Lick of Flame

Cost: 1m
Minimums: Essence 5, MA 5
Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Blossoming Flame Lotus OR student must be a Fire Aspect OR Solar Exalt.

A flare of heat suddenly intercepts an opponent's attack. Against a ranged attack, this charm adds Martial Arts to the Parry DV if the projectile is flammable, otherwise it adds only +1. Against a melee attack, the attacker must soak [Essence]L damage on a successful hit, using only natural soak. This charm also allows a lethal or ranged attack to be parried without a stunt.

Resplendent Fire Form

Cost: 6m
Minimums: Essence 5, MA 5
Type: Simple
Keywords: Form-Type, Obvious
Duration: Scene
Prerequisite Charms: Lick of Flame

Resplendent Fire Form bears considerable resemblence to the Overwhelming Fire Majesty Stance found in Fire Dragon Style. Flame Essence pours forth from the body of the martial artist, searing and consuming her foes. This fiery anima flare may be used to make Martial Arts attacks without need to move, with the following weapon profile: Speed 4, Accuracy +[Essence], Damage [Essence x 2]L, Defense +0, Rate [Essence]. Attacks made with the weapon provided by this form do not penalize the martial artist's DV.

Firestarter Gaze Attack

Cost: 3m
Minimums: Essence 5, MA 5
Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Resplendent Fire Form

Following the meditative attack style of the form, this charm turns any Martial Arts attack into a motionless gesture of Essence. Add Essence to the damage of the attack, make it Lethal, and remove the DV penalty of making the attack.

Dying Ember

Cost: 2m(+1w)
Minimums: Essence 5, MA 5
Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Resplendent Fire Form

In all attacks, there is something of the spirit of fire. This charm meets that spirit in an opponent's attack with the stronger fire of the Resplendent Fire master's anima, causing it to flare out of control. The DV penalty of the opponent's attack is tripled. Furthermore, if the fire does not catch, then it burns out; if the attack misses, it takes one additional tick for the opponent's next action to come up and for his DV to refresh.

If the attack was made using a Simple or Supplemental charm of the Fire aspect, or using a flame weapon of any sort, then this charm may be used as a perfect dodge against it for +1w.

Ash and Cinders Aftermath

Cost: 10m
Minimums: Essence 5, MA 5
Type: Simple
Keywords: Form-Type, Obvious
Duration: Scene
Prerequisite Charms: Dying Ember, Firestarter Gaze Attack

Even the ash and cinders left after a fire has burned contain the essence of the fire. Every mote of Essence spent, but not committed, while this charm is active passes into a seperate pool called the "smoke pool." Motes in the smoke pool return to the Exalt's Essence pool at a rate of [Essence] motes each time her DV refreshes, as long as she used a charm or Combo during her action.
