The Way of Celestial Spirit,

Chapter 1: Basic Techniques

The importance of knowing your next move is almost equal to knowing your opponent's. To first understand the Art of Heaven, you must read your opponent's fighting spirit, "touki," and discern the next attack. To master the Art of Earth, you must then use that knowledge to your advantage.

System: Roll Martial Arts+Essence. Every success adds one die to your next parry or dodge attempt. On a successful defense, this Charm also enables the user to immediately make one extra attack.

[This technique was created to provide a foundation for the Heaven & Earth Style. It hones the student's ability to react to attack and its speed is a taste of the blinding nature of Yun Kai Seng's martial art.]

Chapter 2: Advanced Techniques

There is a Path that practitioners of Heaven & Earth follow called "The Flowing Cirle." All energy flows in a cirle, an eternal cycle. Every movement, every position carries extreme importance. The Path of the Flowing Circle represents this cycle, as this technique demonstrates. It takes the energy of your opponent's attack and redirects it against them in your own attack.

System: Every success nullifies one success of your opponent's close combat attack. Also, if all the attack successes are nullified, then the attack is redirected against the attacker. (Or the chi of the attack, which equates to the same result).

[Chi Reversal Technique reflects the philosophy of Aikido and is often used in the form of the Chinese martial art style called Pa QuaMartialArts/Pakua.]

Chapter 3: Adept Techniques

A wise man once said, "The best offense is a good defense." Only the truly foolish would ignore the importance of preventing damage to one's body. As the student becomes more injured, fighting becomes more difficult. Therefore, in close combat, defense should be of the student's utmost concern. The Flowing Circle teaches the student to use all of his chi, his energies, his Essence to the devotion of this aspect of combat. And in doing so, he becomes a more perfect combatant.

System: Each success with this Charm nullifies two of the opponent's attack successes. However, even if the attack has some remaining successes, the Exalt will still gain an immediate extra attack.

[Now the Path of the Flowing Circle is showing its power. This would make a perfect Combo with an offensive Charm or two. *Wink*]

Chapter 2: Advanced Techniques

Once the pupil has mastered the ability to read her opponent's chi, she can begin to pinpoint special weaknesses in his spiritual leylines. The ability to pierce these points far exceeds the capability of simple physical pressure point attacks. This Path is called "The Spirit Adept." The first technique in this Path does not last very long, but it can slow or even freeze an opponents muscles by slowing the flow of chi.

System: Only a simple success is required. For every 6 motes spent, the target temporarily loses one dot of dexterity OR strentgh. This requires the user to actually touch the target. This Charm doesn't affect the actual body, but the soul. Instead of Stamina, Essence is used to soak the attribute damage.

Needless to say, mortals are often helpless against this sort of assault.

[This is the representative of the second Path, the "offensive" one, as opposed to the defensive nature of the Flowing Circle. Visually, this resembles a Shaolin-based art.

Note that The Heaven & Earth Charms as well as the Destructive Will Charms were all written independently from other charms that might be similar. These Charms are the natural progression of these martial arts.]

Chapter 3: Adept Techniques

Oftentimes, a student will ask, "Why is it so difficult to disable my enemy's chi?" That technique takes so much power to use because it can affect what the user wishes. There is a much easier and more economic method to weaken your opponent. By targeting only those leylines that affect movement, and using only the smallest needle-like touches, The Spirit Adept can effectively freeze his opponent without draining his reserves.

System: Only one success is required to activate this Charm. For every 3 motes spent, the target loses one dot of dexterity. Only the slightest touch is needed to disrupt the target. The Attribute damage can only be soaked by Essence. If the target's dexterity is reduced to zero, he cannot do anything involving motion.

[Apparently, The Disabling Chi Strike was a bit expensive. The Force Disrupting Blow is signifigantly more powerful, but uses the previous Charm as a stepping stone. However unwieldy it may be.]

Paralyzing Chi Aura</b>

<b>Cost: 5 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: Until next action
Type: Simple
Min. Martial Arts: 3
Min. Essence: 3
Prereqs: Flow Sensing Method

[This is the dark art that branched away from Heaven & Earth Spirit Style, the Destructive Will. The current practitioners of this art call it The Seraphic Aura, and only the most knowledgeable martial artists and scholars know of The Aura's darker beginnings]

The Lotus Ebony Scroll

Passage 1: The 1st Skill

Once a student is capable of sensing an opponent's Flow of Chi, he can invert his "Sense" into a "Gaze," transmitting an overload of Chi information to your enemy, freezing his chi in place, although it requires the transmission of all of your Chi onto his. If you take any action other than maintaining the lock, the grip will be instantly nullified.

System: Only one success is needed, and both you and your opponent are essentially frozen in place, unable to do anything. This lock is maintained until you decide to move, or you are unable to maintain the link for lack of brain activity (Dead, unconscious). Simply being damaged will not disrupt the Charm. This can affect one target within the radius of the caster in yards[Essence x 10].

[This is the "Third" Path of Heaven & Earth. Whereas The Path of the Spirit Adept is a directly offensive style, The Aura uses that legendary Anime and Manga martial arts version of Chi. But this Charm isn't as powerful as THAT.]

Passage 2: The 2nd Skill

Once you have learned to freeze your opponent's very soul, you can then learn how to melt it. By increasing the chi flow through your leylines, you can short circuit your opponent's lines by just initiating even minimal contact.

System: The target can "soak" the initial successes with Essence. Afterwards, every remaining success either deals one lethal health level of damage, destroys one temporary willpower point, or erases four motes of Essence. Each success can be divided among any of these three effects. This Charm can affect any living target within a range of [Essence x 10] yards. Of course, the Exalt must be aware of the target's presence.

[This is one of the Charms that made the Destructive Will known as the Dark Art. Apparently, the Grand Masters of the world didn't like people destroying their minds and souls piece by piece. However, it is perfect for softening up an enmy before the real fight begins.]
