willcoon has entered the room.
Wakoid2 has entered the room.
Moonsword134 has entered the room.
willcoon: hello all
Moonsword134: Evening.
FrivYeti: How is everyone?
Wakoid2: slightly groggy
willcoon: pretty good, first final today, got M&Ms instead of an F
willcoon: aww 've you had a lot of grog?
Wakoid2: -smacks Will upside the head-
willcoon: -_-
FrivYeti: M&Ms?
willcoon: yeah
willcoon: you know
willcoon: the teacher had some extra m&ms
FrivYeti: Ahh.
FrivYeti: I thought it was a metaphor.
willcoon: nope
Wakoid2: a metaphor for what, though?
willcoon: nothing but gritty, candy-coated realism here
willcoon: maybe how the test, on teh surface, looked delicious and sugary
willcoon: but beneath that thin coating
willcoon: it was actually delicious and sugary
willcoon: ?
willcoon: okay maybe not
FrivYeti: I like it.
FrivYeti: So, Ambi's not coming. Shall we get started?
Moonsword134: Sure.
willcoon: y naught
willcoon: although that may put a damper on certain parties' planned mockery
Moonsword134: Hush, you.
FrivYeti: ((*grins*))
FrivYeti: ((So, we were mid-discussion when we broke off. I believe the subject was gifts?))
willcoon: ((Specifically, how to take advantage of our dragonblooded population))
Moonsword134: ((And the implication that Hailey was considering using us as breeding stock.))
FrivYeti: ((Yeah, that too. ;) ))
willcoon: "Well, we want to demonstrate our power, but not too overtly."
Moonsword134: Valeria nods slightly.
willcoon: "As Sarasa noted, something of jade might be ideal."
Moonsword134: "But what sort of minor jade devices do we have with us?" Valeria asks.
willcoon: "Damn. We should have taken something for the purpose. We shall have to improvise..."
Wakoid2: "Could you construct some sort of talisman of power, Valeria?" Errant Tiger asked. "I couldn't say what, really, but..."
Moonsword134: Valeria shakes her head, then her soft whisper floats to your ears.
Moonsword134: "No, not without supplies, at least."
Moonsword134: Frowning, she adds, "And most of my tools are more suited to working steel than jade, I'm afraid."
Moonsword134: "I have the skills but both tools and supplies were left in Scarlet Haven. I saw little need for them in comparison to more... practical... items."
willcoon: "Mh. Unfortunate."
FrivYeti: Sarasa considers briefly. "We could send someone back to the Haven for something, perhaps?"
Moonsword134: Valeria shrugs. "If we can find raw jade, I can make the right tools from the spare steel and portable forge a wing's supply chief normally carries."
Wakoid2: "But any jade is likely already been mined from the area, if there ever was any."
Moonsword134: ((They'd need a forge and some spare steel to effect weapons repairs during an extended journey.))
FrivYeti: ((There would likely be a small forge.))
FrivYeti: ((However, making even a basic jade artifact would take months and months.))
Moonsword134: ((Not necessarily an artifact.))
Moonsword134: ((Just a basic token would do.))
FrivYeti: ((Fair 'nough. You could certainly give that a shot.))
Moonsword134: ((Like Valeria said, raw supplies. Once she has those and a forge, she can make a basic token in a few days, I'd imagine.))
Moonsword134: ((She's got the tools to make the tools with her.))
willcoon: "Hmm. If we could find such materials, perhaps an emblem of the Haven would serve well?"
Moonsword134: Valeria shrugs again. "That's more a question for a diplomat than a craftswoman like myself," she points out quietly.
Wakoid2: Errant Tiger nodded slowly. "And whether or not it would... there's still the matter of finding enough jade." He sighed... "Sending someone back might be one of the better
Wakoid2: options, though I dislike considering it..."
willcoon: "Do we have any geomancers with the embassy?"
willcoon: ((How long was the journey anyway?))
FrivYeti: ((Three days into Creation, another day or two to the edge of Mela's Bounty, then five more to the capitol.))
willcoon: ((do we know if there is anyone who's studied geomancy?))
Moonsword134: ((Valeria's a savant, so she might.))
FrivYeti: ((Valeria's probably the only one likely to be able to do anything like that.))
FrivYeti: ((Most of the group are soldiers.))
willcoon: ((Okay, let's see. If there a reasonable geomancy ritual for finding jade, and what's the training time for a procedure?))
Wakoid2: ((minor detail... how would we mine it, even if we found it?))
FrivYeti: ((Fairly long without a tutor. THis is probably a lot more trouble than it's worth.))
willcoon: ((MORE TROUBLE EH))
willcoon: ((WE'LL SHOW YOU MROE TROUBLE))
Moonsword134: ((*whacks WC* Turn your caps lock off, will you?))
willcoon: ((sry))
Moonsword134: ((I'll be right back, I need to go let the dog in.))
willcoon: "Perhaps we should think on the subject and discuss it further tomorrow. I can go with Sarasa to the quartermaster and see if anything... jumps out."
Moonsword134: ((Back.))
Wakoid2: "Do that... It may be that Darting Lynx... or maybe the General or Colonel... thought of this and had something sent with us for such."
FrivYeti: "Very good, sir." Sarasa salutes crisply.
Moonsword134: ((Why do I have this mental image of her as British all of a sudden?))
FrivYeti: ((*grins*))
Wakoid2: ((...))
FrivYeti: ((Shall we just go ahead and scene-shift, then? I think conversation on the subject has petered out.))
Moonsword134: ((Uh, yeah.))
Wakoid2: ((yeah))
FrivYeti: Skein and Sarasa head down to the quartermasters', while the others return to their regularly scheduled business.
willcoon: On the way, Skein turns to Sarasa. "So, Sarasa, what do you think?"
FrivYeti: Sarasa smiles faintly. "About what, sir?"
willcoon: "Of Creation, naturally. It's been a long time since our progenitors set foot on this soil."
FrivYeti: Sarasa nods after a moment. "It's not quite what I imagined, sir. There's so much activity - even here." She waves a hand at the mountains.
FrivYeti: "It's a little nerve-inducing, to be honest."
willcoon: "I suppose it's good to have perspective. But you think you're prepared?"
willcoon: "... and what exactly did you imagine it would be like?"
FrivYeti: "I don't know." Sarasa considers the question seriously. "I suppose I knew intellectually. But whenever things get bustling in the Wyld, it means there's an attack coming. Here, there are just... animals."
Moonsword134: ((*suspects that Sarasa would be distinctly unnerved by Hitchcock's classic birds horror film*))
FrivYeti: "Ones that won't turn into flying razor wires."
FrivYeti: ((Yeah, that would have her jumping at shadows for a week.))
willcoon: Skein nods. "True enough. But keep your vigilance, it will serve you well on our journey to Mela's Bounty."
willcoon: ((should I roll some bureaucracy or something to deal with the quartermaster, or what?))
FrivYeti: ((Go for it. Manipulation + Bureaucracy.))
FrivYeti: Sarasa nods with a smile. "Thank you, sir."
willcoon: ((I'm uninspired re stunts for the qmaster : ( i'll just roll it ))
FrivYeti: ((*grins* Very good.))
OnlineHost: willcoon rolled 8 10-sided dice: 5 5 4 5 9 10 2 5
willcoon: ((mmh))
FrivYeti: The quartermaster meets with Skein, and agrees to search his stores.
FrivYeti: He turns up a small amount of jade coin, which could be worked into something nice, but nothing actually designed for the purpose.
Moonsword134: ((And now we have to convince Lynx to part with them.))
willcoon: ((Does the Haven actually have an emblem or symbol? I mean, I doubt there's been much call for one, but... perhaps the syymbol of the 46th legion?))
willcoon: ((And if so, might we have anything with that emblem?))
FrivYeti: ((I would guess that the 46th Legion had a crest, which is still in use for official purposes.))
FrivYeti: ((Your banners would have the crest on it, as would any seals you are using.))
Moonsword134: ((At least administratively, we _are_ still the 46th legion.))
Moonsword134: ((And a legion should have something equivalent to the old British regimentary standards and seals, which could be pretty distinct.))
willcoon: Skein thanks the quartermaster, and leaves to check with Valeria for her opinion.
willcoon: "Valeria, the quartermaster had little of what we sought, save for some jade coin that might be reworked. Do you think you could make something suitable?))
willcoon: ((err, that's a """, not a "))"))
Moonsword134: Valeria frowns. "How much jade? An ounce? A pound?" she asks. "As I said before, with a forge and some rough steel, I can make the tools to work with the jade itself."
willcoon: ((How much, friv?))
FrivYeti: ((Um.... Resources 3 worth?))
FrivYeti: ((I'm not sure on the exact jade-to-object conversion ration.))
Moonsword134: ((That should be at least a few pounds.))
FrivYeti: ((Less than that.))
Moonsword134: ((Medieval coins were larger than todays.))
Moonsword134: ((I mean maybe a kilo or two, Friv.))
FrivYeti: ((True, but jade is very expensive.))
FrivYeti: ((I think it's about a pound.))
FrivYeti: ((The book is very vague on the sizes involved.))
Moonsword134: ((Yeah. I could probably do some research and get a better size (or contact a professor at UWG, for that matter) but I'm not inclined to worry about it.))
willcoon: "So, how long might it take to forge an emblem, or something else suitably ostentatious?"
Moonsword134: Valeria frowns. "I'm a smith of tools and weapons, not art, but I should be able to forge something in a few days once I make the right tools."
Wakoid2: ((what type of coins are they? the core has weights for them))
Moonsword134: ((Working with jade is more akin to Craft (Air) than Craft (Fire), which is Valeria's specialty.))
Moonsword134: ((And trying to alloy it with steel would take smelting gear, which we don't have.))
willcoon: ((Is this plausible at all, Friv?))
FrivYeti: ((*thinks*))
FrivYeti: ((Working jade is really more Crafts (Earth), since it's stone.))
FrivYeti: ((Alloying it is Crafts (Fire).))
Moonsword134: ((...but requires tools and gear we don't have and can't make very easily.))
FrivYeti: ((Right, Valeria doesn't have Charms for that. Forgot.))
Moonsword134: ((Right. She's got First Craft (I think) but not much else in that tree.))
Wakoid2: ((and would take time we don't have, even if we wouldn't be on the move))
FrivYeti: ((Thank you for pointing out weights, Wakoid. You guys actually have about three to four pounds of jade.))
FrivYeti: ((I was wrong on the relative cost of coins.))
Moonsword134: ((Figured. Resources 3 isn't chump change.))
FrivYeti: ((I was thinking that jade turned into scrip a lot faster than it actually does.))
willcoon: "It seems we will have to think of something else. Perhaps even a token gift of jade would be suficient. In any case, rest well for tomorrow."
Moonsword134: ((Don't worry about it. Trust me, Creation's economy is _whacked_ from a historical perspective.))
FrivYeti: ((*laughs*))
Moonsword134: ((It's epic fantasy, so economic planning wasn't really on White Wolf's list of priorities.))
Moonsword134: ((That said, the economy is very skewed towards artisans, which it shouldn't be outside of Lookshy or some parts of the Blessed Isle, which have the infrastructure to support a modest version of the Industrial Revolution.))
Moonsword134: ((Can you tell I'm a history major? ;) ))
willcoon: (( ^ ^;; heh ))
Moonsword134: ((Well, I suppose I should say historian, since I graduate on Saturday. Other than a two page paper for the geography side of my degree, I'm done with my BA.))
FrivYeti: The night passes quietly, and the next day, the troupe starts off into the mountains.
willcoon: ((with jade!))
FrivYeti: The day's march is filled with soldiers alternately jumping at shadows at looking at new species in awe.
willcoon: (( : ) ))
FrivYeti: Despite this, there are no more attacks, and the march passes without any incidents.
Moonsword134: ((...that may be a first for this campaign.))
FrivYeti: ((Are people going to discuss presents with Lynx that night, or just wait until it's time to break off from the main group?))
FrivYeti: ((It happened the LAST time you went through the mountains. ;) ))
Moonsword134: ((I'm not planning to. Valeria goes out of her way to avoid Lynx.))
FrivYeti: ((They're very safe mountains.))
Moonsword134: ((Arbiters, Friv?))
FrivYeti: ((The Arbiters are on the other side of the mountains, so it'll be Day 3 that you run into them.))
Wakoid2: ((I'll bite the bullet and do it))
Wakoid2: ((should I start posing talking to her, or...?))
FrivYeti: That night, Lynx has a very short "keep doing what you're doing briefing", after which she meets with Errant Tiger.
FrivYeti: "You wished to speak with me, Captain?"
Wakoid2: "Yes. Last night after your briefing the rest of us met to prepare for the journey and meeting with the Daimyo. We've planned out the route, but the main detail I wished to speak to
Wakoid2: you about was that we were planning to bring a gift as a token of good faith. Skein and Lietenant Sarasa have gone to the quartermaster to see if they could find anything to use or work into such."
Moonsword134: ((Query: Does Lynx actually understand the concept of good faith? Her personality doesn't seem like the type that would...))
FrivYeti: ((Now, now.))
FrivYeti: (( ;) ))
Moonsword134: ((What? I'm just pointing out the truth.  ;) ))
FrivYeti: ((She understands the _concept_. She more falls down in application.))
Wakoid2: "The only thing they found were a number of jade coins with the Legion's emblem on it," Tiger continued. "I was wondering if we would be allowed these for this purpose, and
Wakoid2: if not, if there was some other item or items that we had with us that might have been brought for such a purpose."
FrivYeti: Lynx considers briefly. "Hm. I had not considered the need for a gift between two soldiers of the Dynasty. If this Yukong is a devout Immaculate, it could be insulting to his piety."
FrivYeti: "However, you are the diplomat. If you think it wise, you can certainly requisition some of the coinage for creating such a gift." She pauses. "Not just money. We don't want to appear crass."
FrivYeti: ((*smacks forehead*)0
FrivYeti: ((Ignore the "You are the diplomat comment."))
Wakoid2: ((heh...))
Wakoid2: ((-deletes part of reply-))
FrivYeti: ((Momentary brainfart on my part. Rather, amend it to "If Master Skein feels" etc.))
Moonsword134: ((She's arrogant, not blonde.))
Wakoid2: Errant Tiger nodded. "We generally felt that it would be wise to give such a token to show the potential value of Scarlet Haven as an ally. And Valeria believes that she may
Wakoid2: be able to work them into a item to use, rather than leave them as coins. We were not planning on anything extravagent, seeing as we have limited supplies, but something can
Wakoid2: likely be done given enough time." He bowed. "That was the main point I wished to speak to you about Winglord. Unless you wish any additional information, I shall head back to continue preperations."
Wakoid2: ((I keep thinking I spelled 'preperations' wrong...))
FrivYeti: Lynx nods. "Very good, Captain. I'll make sure that the quartermaster is aware of your need."
Wakoid2: ((that was surprisingly painless))
FrivYeti: ((Sure, it's not HER money.))
Wakoid2: The Wood-aspect saluted, and turned to leave.
willcoon: ((Also, we've got to have a copy of the immaculate texts with us. If Skein can get a hold of it, that'll be his bedtime reading 'til we get there))
FrivYeti: ((*laughs* Very good. Skein can definately get ahold of a copy.))
willcoon: ((good for tossin' quotes at the very least))
FrivYeti: The next day passes much as the previous one; the soldiers continue through the mountains unimpeded.
FrivYeti: As the group approaches the base of the mountain, Tiger's scouts spot the telltale smoke of a campfire up ahead.
Moonsword134: Valeria raises a single marble-white eyebrow. "The Arbiters, perhaps?))
Moonsword134: ((Err...))
Wakoid2: ((and here is where it would be good to have Hailey and her Invisosuit))
willcoon: ((yep. well we have scouts ahead anyway, hopefully they don't get seen...))
FrivYeti: ((Figurine of Wonderous)) Hailey slips forwards from the scouts, investigating.
OnlineHost: FrivYeti rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 1
OnlineHost: FrivYeti rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 1
FrivYeti: ((Hrm. I'm messing something up.))
Moonsword134: ((//dice-sides#-dice#))
OnlineHost: Unknown "//" command.
Moonsword134: ((Err... //roll-sides#-dice#))
OnlineHost: FrivYeti rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 1
FrivYeti: ((Oh, wait. *smacks forehead*))
OnlineHost: FrivYeti rolled 8 10-sided dice: 3 9 6 4 2 8 10 3
willcoon: ((much better))
FrivYeti: After a few minutes, Hailey returns to confirm that the people sitting around the campfire look like members of Marell's Arbiter squad.
FrivYeti: Although Marell himself is not present.
willcoon: "We should probably meet them directly..." Skein looks over to the others and Lynx.
Moonsword134: ((...Lynx, who is back with her command unit, not with the forward picket, that being us, I think.))
FrivYeti: ((Assuming that Tiger returned to the command unit with the information?))
willcoon: ((riight eiight))
FrivYeti: ((Skein and Valeria would likely be nearish the main unit.))
Wakoid2: ((yes))
Wakoid2: "Myself and the others first, as they should recognize us?" proposed Errant Tiger. "Less likely to have an incident that way."
Moonsword134: ((Skein, maybe. I've been moving with Tiger's formation on the assumption that they're the most likely to bump into trouble.))
willcoon: ((We probably need someone in the main group))
willcoon: ((so if i'm back there i'll wait unles notified))
FrivYeti: Lynx nods after a moment of reflection. "Very well. Inform them of our arrival."
Wakoid2: Tiger nodded. "I should signal that it is safe shortly, Winglord." He began walking briskly in the direction of the campfire, waving forward the other Dragon-bloods and several of the soldiers from his scale to go with him.
willcoon: Skein moves forth to accompany the forward group upon learning of this development.
FrivYeti: ((...))
FrivYeti: ((Did anyone else just get a message that Moonsword is away?))
Wakoid2: ((nope))
willcoon: ((...no?))
willcoon: ((oh wait, looks like he is anyway))
FrivYeti: ((Weird. Moonsword? Is it just me?))
Moonsword134: ((...that's weird.))
FrivYeti: ((And it just returned you. I hate AIM.))
Moonsword134: ((I'm here. I was waiting for things to go on.))
Moonsword134: ((...and for some reason, AIM stopped sending me notification beeps, so when I stopped looking at the screen, I didn't notice that messages were being sent.))
FrivYeti: The party approaches the campfire, where two scouts dressed in the Arbiter gear challenge them. "Halt! Who passes by?"
willcoon: "We are the embassy of Scarlet Haven."
Moonsword134: Valeria, aware of her distinctive looks, steps forward.
Moonsword134: Saying nothing, she just observes to see if the scout recognizes her.
willcoon: ((do we recognize these guys?))
FrivYeti: ((Vaguely.))
FrivYeti: ((They're certainly some of his men.))
FrivYeti: The scouts pause a moment, and then nods to you gravely. "Greetings, sirs. Captain Marell left us here to act as guides while he conveyed information of your arrival to the other Arbiters."
FrivYeti: "He should be returning here within the next two to three days."
Moonsword134: Valeria nods politely in return but continues to stay silent.
willcoon: "We have returned to Creation on a diplomatic mission for the Haven."
willcoon: "Is Captain Marell planning to meet with us on his return?"
FrivYeti: The scout nods. "I believe so. Or at least wait for you." He smiles.
FrivYeti: "If you have a message for him, we can convey it. Or you can remain to wait."
Wakoid2: ((were we going to head out immediately for the capitol, or help build the embassy/camp?))
FrivYeti: ((I believe Lynx wanted you guys to head off as soon as the formation stopped.))
Moonsword134: ((...hell.))
Moonsword134: ((I can just _bet_ that meeting with her'll do wonders for our reputation with the Arbiters.))
Wakoid2: "We'll have to leave a message, though there will be someone waiting that he can speak with." He waved into the woods, signalling the waiting soldiers the all-clear. "We are currently under the command
Wakoid2: of Winglord Darting Lynx from Scarlet Haven, who is in charge of this diplomatic mission. I and my men personally will be heading forward to Mela's Bounty to see the Daimyo, but she
Wakoid2: will be staying in the area here as a base camp from which to move and send messages back to Scarlet Haven from."
FrivYeti: The scout nods after a moment. "Very good, sir. We'll be happy to give assistance as required."
FrivYeti: "We'd help escort you to the Daimyo, but as you are no doubt aware, we are not welcome in his lands."
Wakoid2: "We are, and we're not asking you to. At most, we'd wish for advice on the route we plan to take, as you are more familiar with the region regardless, and we only know it as lines
Wakoid2: on a map." He stepped forward, looking back towards where the rest of the Scarlet Haven forces were. "Winglord Lynx should actually be coming over soon, as she wished to speak
Wakoid2: with your captain, I believe. She is ranked fairly high within Scarlet Haven's forces, and-" He lowered his voice, "She is rather... proud of her station and status as a Dragon-Blood." He looks at the scout meaningfully.
OnlineHost: Wakoid2 rolled 6 10-sided dice: 5 4 1 8 10 4
FrivYeti: The scout looks at Tiger for a moment, and then nods his head. "Right. We'll be sure to demonstrate appropriate respect, sir."
Wakoid2: Tiger nodded, and continued to wait for Lynx's arrival. "If I might ask, where has Captain Marell gone to?"
FrivYeti: "The Arbiters are scattered across the region, and we lack a dedicated sorcerer in our squad. Captain Marell returned to headquarters, to ensure that everyone gets the news as quickly as possible."
FrivYeti: The scout grins. "We wouldn't want a repeat of our small near-disaster the first time around."
Moonsword134: Valeria chuckles and shakes her head. "No, I suspect not," she muses in her usual whisper.
willcoon: "Be sure to send Marell our regards, despite our absence. I hope he understands the circumstances."
FrivYeti: "I'm sure that he will, Captain. I'm sure that he will be here when you return." The scout nods, and turns to go back to the camp to talk with the others."
FrivYeti: ((And on that note - it's 11:30, and I'm wiped. Stupid work. We'll say that Lynx arrives, takes over, and you guys head off.))
Wakoid2: ((-patpats-))
willcoon: ((ooki... get some rest friv! gnight all))
Moonsword134: ((I know the feeling. I made a four hour round-trip commute to UWG for a final. It's the only reason I need to be on campus until Saturday, but that's a lot of driving on top of the final and the paper I finished.))
FrivYeti: ((4 XP each for a good night, and I'll see y'all next week. Hopefully, we'll have a full compliment for the "finally meet Yukong" moment.))
willcoon: ((yay, geti nto the action))
FrivYeti: ((Good night, everyone!))
Wakoid2: ((see ya))
Moonsword134: ((Good night.))
