Background

Glorious Bastion was born as a merchant’s son in Port Calin. Bastion grew up accustomed to being spoiled by his parents, but his father wasn’t a very good merchant, and soon the family was on the street. The disgrace killed his mother, and Bastion began doing increasingly shady things to keep his family alive, falling in with gangs and the like. Soon, he was his gang’s bullyboy enforcer.

Things might have gone on that way, but Bastion’s gang committed one bold crime too many, and ran afoul of law enforcement. Desperately trying to escape, Bastion ended up standing in an alleyway to give his companions time to escape, fighting against five guardsmen. Hopelessly overwhelmed, he expected to die. Instead, he Exalted, and beat the guardsmen almost senseless before retreating.

Only a few of Bastion’s friends still stayed with him after that. Fleeing Port Calin only steps ahead of the Wyld Hunt, he and his gang moved haphazardly across the Scavenger Lands. Eventually, they wound up in Harranth, where a weak Fair Folk noble was terrorizing the beleaguered kingdom. Bastion dealt with the noble the only way he knew how; with his sword. The residents immediately proclaimed him their new king, rather to his surprise.

Since then, Bastion has been more or less fixing the fortunes of the kingdom. He is growing to enjoy luxury once again, and is fiercely protective of his people, but he is also gradually thinking of setting his sights larger. A unified Kingdom of the East sounds pretty good. One step at a time, though…
