Acasi The Souldrake

The behemoth known as the Souldrake was created in the time before the Exalted, when humanity was yet young. Its creator was the Primordial that would later become known as the Ebon Dragon, the patron of darkness and an intimate acquaintance with death. The Dragon was curious about the nature of human souls, and created Acasi as a means of gauging human power. He imbued it with fractional (by his standards) power, and fine-tuned the beast until he had a good idea of how souls worked. Then, bored, he abandoned the souldrake and departed.

Acasi, left to his own devices, took stock. Because of his construction, human souls were painful to him - the most expediant way the Dragon had conceived of was to create something powerful, and have it weaken in the presence of souls. Also because of this, he was powerful against those without such souls, and he began to roam the areas of Creation where humanity could not follow. For many centuries, he roamed thus, but he felt a strange hunger growing within him. To his horror, he felt drawn back to the edges of human lands, and he did not understand why until, chancing upon a lone human, he killed him and reflexively devoured his soul. Acasi discovered that such feeding calmed his hunger, and he soon became a hunter in the night, preying upon humans that fled the Dragon Kings.

During the Primordial War, Acasi was drawn into a battle with a group of young Exalts. Badly wounded, he fled to the only place he could think of; a mountain near a human town. Falling into slumber, Acasi was not aware of the growth of an Exalt-led base in the town. By the time he was healed, the proximity of humanity had driven him comatose.

This state of affairs continued until the Contagion, when the town's population was nearly wiped out. This finally allowed Acasi to wake, and he managed to struggle to freedom. Now, he haunts the frozen North, seeking out lone souls in the wastes to slake his hunger for souls. Acasi hates humanity for their weakness, but also loathes the Primordials for creating him this way. He might be persuaded to join the Deathlords, if they knew of him and sought him out.

Appearance

When he is not surrounded by the stink of humanity, Acasi appears to be a great flying wyrm, with wings that drip shadow and song, close to twenty feet long, with glistening scales and six long legs, each with razor-sharp claws. As more humans approach him, his wings grow thing, his scales grow dull, and the dark cunning in his eyes is gradually replaced by feral hunger.

Acasi is often surrounded by a small number of hungry ghosts that serve him.

Powers:

Dark Soul: Many of Acasi's Traits vary depending on his proximity to higher souls. When considering, consider all higher souls within a mile of Acasi. This includes living mortals as well as ghosts, and generally nothing else. It specifically does not include soulsteel; such souls are no longer capable of influencing him.

For the table below, Physical Traits refers to the following: Strength, Dexterity, Stamina, Martial Arts, Thrown, Resistance, Athletics, and Stealth. Mental Traits refers to Perception, Intelligence, Wits, Investigation, Survival, and Awareness. Finally, Social Traits refers to Charisma, Manipulation, Appearance, and Presence.

|| Higher Souls (In Magnitude) || Physical Traits || Mental Traits || Social Traits || Soak || Hardness || Essence || || None || 10 || 5 || 4 || 50B/50L || 30 || 6 || || Magnitude 0 || 9 || 5 || 4 || 40B/40L || 25 || 6 || || Magnitude 1 || 8 || 5 || 4 || 30B/30L || 20 || 5 || || Magnitude 2 || 7 || 4 || 3 || 25B/25L || 15 || 5 || || Magnitude 3 || 6 || 4 || 3 || 20B/20L || 10 || 4 || || Magnitude 4 || 5 || 3 || 3 || 15B/15L || 5 || 4 || || Magnitude 5 || 4 || 3 || 2 || 10B/10L || 3 || 3 || || Magnitude 6 || 3 || 2 || 2 || 8B/8L || - || 3 || || Magnitude 7 || 2 || 2 || 1 || 6B/6L || - || 2 || || Magnitude 8 || 1 || 1 || 1 || 4B/4L || - || 2 || || Magnitude 9 or greater || 0* || 0 || 0 || 2B/2L || - || 1 ||

At Magnitude 9, Acasi becomes completely immobile and comatose.

Flight: Acasi is capable of flying. His Move while flying is equal to (Dexterity x2), and his Dash is equal to (Dexterity x2) +12.

Strong Against The Soulless: Acasi is highly resistant to attacks by beings without higher souls; this includes gods, demons, and Fair Folk. Such beings permanently suffer an external penalty to hit him or target him with effects equal to his Essence, and he adds double his Essence to his bashing, lethal, and aggravated soak against them.

Soul Ward: Acasi's nature can cause souls to rebel at striking him even as they weaken him. At the cost of 2 motes, Acasi can apply a die penalty to hit him equal to his Essence.

Soul Eater: Acasi can devour higher souls. When he kills someone, he may take a standard Speed 5 action to eat their higher soul, ensuring that they will not rise as a ghost. If he does this, their corpse will automatically and instantly rise as a hungry ghost under Acasi's control. If these ghosts ever travel more than (Acasi's Essence) x50 yards from Acasi, he loses control of them forever. Often, this causes them to vanish entirely.
