The Panjandrum
If the Self ever overshadows and supercedes Society, if the Ring ever controls the hand wielding the Staff, then you have the Panjandrum. The Panjandrum manipulate the very fabric of any social construct in which they find themselves, simply because they can. They organize others to fall in line with their self-perception. A manipulative schoolmaster who imposes rules simply to see his students jump through hoops, would be an example of a Panjandrum.
