Energy Skycutter

Artifact 2 --By BrilliantRain

Built during the First Age by a Twilight who wanted more control over her boomerang, this Skycutter has had essence powered thrusters added to give more control over its flight path. The following is a basic prototype version.

Appearance: This weapon looks like a two foot long boomerang made of one of the Five Magical Materials. Unlike the normal skycutter, this one has essence carrying circuitry leading from essence absorbing crystals located near the hand grips to a central crystal distributor which powers the essence lenses on the edges of the boomerang.

Powers:
|| ||Speed||Accuracy||Damage||Defence||Rate||Range||Minimums|| ||Ranged||+0||+2||+5L||N/A||2||50||Dex 3||

Attunement: 5m (any)

  • Energy Thrusters: By charging the thruster system with 5 motes, the Skycutter gains the following benefits for the rest of the scene:
    • +1 to accuracy
    • +10 to range
    • The Skycutter returns to the user's hand right after it finishes any ranged attack, regardless of the success or failure of the attack.
    • The Skycutter returns so quickly that it may be thrown up to its full rate in one turn.
  • MM Bonuses: The Energy Skycutter gets the standard Skycutter MM bonuses. However, as Starmetal circuitry is slightly easier to perfect, Starmetal Energy Skycutters only take 5 minutes repair time and the difficulty of the roll is only 2.
  • Maintenance: Due to the prototype status of the Energy Skycutter the essence lenses have a tendency to get out of sync. After any scene in which the thrusters are used, the lenses must be realigned and the distributor reconfigured, a process which takes a successful Int+Crafts (Magitech), diff 3 roll and 10 minutes. Taking an additional 10 minutes gives a bonus die to the roll, up to a maximum of 3 dice. Should this maintenance not take place before the thrusters are activated again, the erratic thruster pattern will instead reduce accuracy by one and reduce the range by 10. Should the user ever botch a thrown roll while the thrusters are behind in their maintenance, the thruster system will kick on for a round and target a 1 success attack on the thrower.

Comments

Another boomerang. What can I say, I like interesting weapons.
