Brilliant Rain was a Twilight of the First Age and a brilliant planner, all of her capers were designed and practiced so that they would work like precision instruments.  She terrorized shipping for 50 years before the Solar Deliberative was finally able to discover her true identity and capture her.  However, she managed to gain a measure of success in her defeat, by exploding in a fiery conflagration that killed not only herself but all of her subordinates too, thus ensuring the secrecy of her treasure cashes until her next incarnation could retrieve them.
