Description Destiny is a cruel thing. This is the one thing above all else that Heterol Atrias has learned over the years

Born under an auspicious star, life was good for Atrias. He was the first-born son of House Heterol, a family distant related to the Empress, who controlled a small but rich nation on the northern coast of the inner sea. He was a natural commander, taking part in an operation against a new anathema at the age of fifteen, and succeeding brilliantly.

So handsome was he that even the Empress requested his presence. But he was not limited to merely small conquests or petty dalliances. No, Atrias knew that Exaltation was at his very fingertips. It had been several generations since anyone in his family had been brought into the fold of the dragons but such was his confidence that he stopped praying to them, refusing to do so until exalted.

This worried his family. The immaculate came to him and tried to convince him that this would not sway the Dragons, but to no avail. He refused to even look at the temple. The years went by and it soon became obvious that Atrias indeed would not exalt. Thus humiliated, at the age of 21, after five years, he finally returned to the local temple dedicated to Pasiap. He got down on his knees and wept, begging for the power that was denied to him. It was dawn and the sun was just breaking over the horizon when the light shone into the stained glass, shattering it. Atrias felt his spirit rise, strength flow through his limbs, unbelievable power surge in his brain. He knew then that he had exalted, not as a pitiful child of the elements, but as a Solar, a true prince of the earth. So, knowing that he would surely be hunted by the Wyld hunt, he left without telling anyone, setting off to build a kingdom of his own

At least, that’s what he tells everybody. The truth is a much crueler thing Atrias is not his real name. He is a child of House Heterol, but the real Atrias was his older brother, who exalted as a water aspect at age twelve. He was enraged at his older brother. Atrias got all the attention while he was forced to play second fiddle. He prayed everyday to whatever god would listen to kill his older brother and give him the power that he himself deserved.

To prove to their son that he was only mortal and would remain as such they sent him out with Atrias to battle a rouge tribe of icewalkers, hoping that perhaps a near-death experience would jar him out of his beliefs and if he dies, well then at least they have their Dragon-blooded son. So off the two brothers went, one anticipating a glorious battle, one plotting the others downfall The icewalkers were being led by a Lunar, and the brother’s party was surprised in the dead of the night. As the real Atrias fought to save his brother, the false one crept up from behind wielding a knife. He slit his brother’s neck just as the struck fatal blow was struck at the Lunar. As he felt his brothers blood flood onto his hands Atrias exalted.

Now ashamed of his treachery, Atrias took his brothers name, his black jade armor and his Orcichalum daiklave, a relic retrieved from a dead Anathema and set out on his own hoping to escape his past and taking his anger out on the world.
