Sparrow's Fall
Artifact Level ~ 5
Commitment ~ 8 motes

Sparrow's Fall was forged from the Starmetal pieces of a broken First Age weapon known as Coaltion's Wrath. For more of that story, please see The Legacy of Coalition's Wrath.

Sparrow's Fall is a slender, slightly curved, single edged weapon similar to a saber. It possesses an elaborately wrought bell guard stylized to look like a swirling of feathers. Stamped onto the blade is a stylized image of a sparrow. The sword constantly weeps tiny pin pricks of blood all along its length. It is said that the blade possesses a sharp hunger, a desire for purpose, and that it enhances this drive in its wielder. Those who attune to Sparrow's Fall raise their Conviction by one and lower their Compassion by 1. This can result in a rating higher than five. If it would drop the user's Compassion to 0, it remains at 1 and instead raised the difficulty of Compassion related rolls by 1. Like its brethren, Sparrow's Fall has a yearning for violence and the infliction of harm. Add a single automatic success to all attack and damage rolls against targets not yet wounded by Sparrow's Fall in a given scene.

Sparrow's Fall true potential is revealed when it is wielded with a purpose. It lends the user strength and clarity; it makes them an unstoppable force in the fulfillment of htat purpose. At any time its wielder may whisper a cause to the blade, spend a willpower, and bind a task or goal to the weapon. This generates an intimacy to the named cause. In addition, when the blade is being wielded in the service of this objective, attacks made with it reduce their DV penalty by 1, the character boosts his MDV by 3, and ignores up to 3 points of internal or wound penalties.

There are dark tales of Sparrow's Fall driving its wielders to abandon everything but the purpose given to the blade. Darker still are the rumors that if a wielder perishes with an unfulfilled task that the blade will take over the body and imprison the ghost, and continue the pursuit of its named goal...

Sparrow's Fall has two hearthstone settings, one in the center of the hand guard, the other in the pommel.

I think something may be missing... any thoughts?-Ambisinister

An effect that doesn't require binding to a task? Some more 'generic' thing that is a bit more generally applicable? -- GreenLantern, just spouting ideas
