Gaia

Gaia loves all life. She loves with perfect purity, perfect compassion. The tanglebrush weed that plagues Eastern farmers is, in her view, as beautiful as the most admirable mortal hero. Gaia is life. And has been in love with herself since she first crawled from the chaos of the Wyld. Her heart was cold, otherwise; her immense vanity so filled her that she had no room for anyone or anything else.

Some of the primordials grew concerned. Their sister loved nothing outside herself, and they feared that one day her vanity would lead her to betray them. And so they took their concerns to Autochthon, the crafter, whom they always sought aid from though they did not love him for it.

"I will make something she will love," he said, and he did. He crafted Gaia's lover from moonsilver, the metal of the Wyld, ever mutable. For Gaia's heart was fickle, and a creature less changeable would never hold her interest.

And so Luna, newly made, went to seduce her lover. The first form she took was that of a mirror, shining back Gaia's own reflection, and so Gaia fell in love at once. Luna changed herself, slowly, teasing the primordial with distortions and ripples in her reflection. The primordial was captivated, and chased the twisting, taunting moonsilver always, who she knew was her other self.

Gaia loved something, now, but it availed the primordials not, for their unloved Crafter was too a traiter, and the primordials were betrayed.
