Mauvewall, City Under Siege

  • Location: The North: Eastern face of the southern Black Crag Mountains
  • Population
    • Urban: 375,000
    • Surrounding Area: TONS OF EVIL
  • Ruler: The Triad in Moonsilver
  • Status: Semi-Tributary of the Realm, not assigned to any Girl Gang.

Things have been going badly for Mauvewall of late. But then, it's never been the luckiest of cities. Originally, Mauvewall was the city of Pax Solarica, the City of the Sun's Peace, a great holy center for worship of the Broodingly Handsome Sun. Unfortunately, as the Bishonen sank into Brooding, the populace became so angsty that eventually, the entire population collapsed in on themselves into a giant field of angst which haunted the city until the Chaos Plague. Anyone who tried to settle here was eventually overwhelmed with angst and fled or died of depression.

The Chaos Plague dispersed the angst, thankfully, rendering the city fit to live in and many refugees fled to it, though the warping changed the walls to purple and made many buildings strangely colored. In the early years after the plague, three goddesses, the Triad in Silver, settled here and took control of the community and the many worship centers. They have grown vastly powerful, and using this as their refuge, have tried to work towards peace and prosperity for the North.

For centuries, the Triad was successful despite periodic attempts by the Catgirls to reclaim the Moonsilver artifacts controlled by the Triad. Unfortunately, a large pocket of angst out in the countryside survived the Chaos Plague. With time, it gnawed a hole, letting the Underworld through. Now the Dead come out at night, seeking to attack those travelling the highways to and from the city. Furthermore, packs of Alien Princesses have moved into this area from the Wyld Zone to the Southwest that survived the defeat of the Chaos Plague.

The result is that travel has become increasingly dangerous, though the ancient enchantments on the road that leads to the sea and the road to Doom City keep the dead and the Oni off the roads. Furthermore, in recent years, it has been learned that lining the roads with statues of ugly people also tends to repel the Oni. The fields around the city itself are planted with beans to act as a living barrier during the warmer months to Oni attack.

Mauvewall Proper

Mauvewall was originally designed to hold 5 million people. Instead, it now holds 375,000. This has had several consequences.

First of all, large tracts of land have been cleared and are home to intense agriculture, growing basic foodstuffs. This eases the necessity of importing as much food, as the land is strangely super-fertile. Rice, beans, tomatos, and potatos are the most common foods grown here. All but the wealthy folk of the city are semi-vegetarians, as meat must be imported. Thankfully, the Mauvewall River flows through the city and brings fish into the city, providing a source of protein along with the omnipresent beans.

Secondly, while the poor may struggle to eat and clothe themselves, the standard of housing is very high, as while most of the Harem Age amenities broke down long ago, there's a ton of high-quality housing to be had. And the rich live EXTREMELY well.

Thirdly, there is no slavery in Mauvewall; there is too much fear a slave would betray them all to attack one night.

Fourthly, the city is home to a congerie of lesser spirits, drawn by the Triad, who help to run everything and who stake out chunks of city as their personal desmenes. The Kawaii Order frequently has nightmares about this place.

The city nestles in a valley between two mountains; both mountains are extensively mined in order to gain metals for making tools and gems and precious metals for sale. The city relies on its artisan work for trade. The mountains are covered with beans to keep the oni from infiltrating by these routes.

The Temples

There are five temples here to the Broodingly Handsome Sun, one corresponding to each of the five Castes of Bishonen. Each temple augments the performance of the appropriate Abilities for that caste, adding the Essence of the person in question to any use of the five relevant abilities. Furthermore, each functions as a level 3 Manse for Essence recovery; this is doubled if you belong to the right Caste. Daily performance of worship rites here provides the Triad with the effective benefits of a Level 4 cult. There is room, in fact, for two more goddesses to move in, turning the Triad into a Pentet, if they fully understood how the sacral architecture worked.

The locals know each of the five temples by the most common worship methods used therein:

  • The Temple of the Kensai is known as the Temple of the Sword; it is used to fight holy duels.
  • The Temple of the Stalwart is known as the Temple of Karaoke; it is used every night for singing and dancing.
  • The Temple of the Meight is known as the Temple of Wisdom; it is a giant library, consulted for information.
  • The Temple of the Shinobi is known as the Temple of Nimble Feet; it used for acrobatics performances.
  • The Temple of the Peacemaker is known as the Temple of Peace; it is used when treaties and deals are negotiated.

The Triad

Three Goddesses all came here during the Chaos Plague to try to organize a refuge for humanity, having heard the Ancient Angst had been driven forth. They ended up cooperating to rebuild the city and took control of its temples. Hidden behind Moonsilver Masks and other artifacts, they have ruled ever since.

Yappapa

Yappapa is the Northern Minister of Karaoke. Linked to the Temple of the Stalwart, she is in charge of lipsynching all over the North. Inside Mauvewall, she is in charge of maintaining the morale of the city and is quite good at it; even under constant siege, the city remains mostly cheerful and optimistic. Yappapa herself resembles a female version of Snoopy in her true form, though clad in an exercise outfit. In human form, she is short and slender with pale skin and long pale hair with an odd dark fringe. She loves to sing and dance.

Domestica

Domestica is the Northern Minister of Family Life. Linked to the Temple of the Meight, she is in charge of maintaining the unity and survival of families all over the North. Inside Mauvewall, she runs the logistics of the city, ensuring that the city remains economically viable and protecting the family life of its inhabitants. Domestica herself has a human base form; she is a middle aged woman with dark hair turning grey, plump and strong with wide hips. She encourages everyone to exercise more.

Sigurd

Sigurd is the Northern Minister of Guardianship. Linked to the Temple of the Kensai, she is in charge of protecting settlements from attack all over the North. Inside Mauvewall, she runs the city's military forces and handles foreign policy affairs. In her true form, Sigurd resembles a humanoid german shepherd in Moonsilver Articulated Plate. In her human form, she is a tall, muscular woman with long blonde hair tied back in a ponytail, clad in Moonsilver Articulated Plate. In both forms, she prefers to fight with a spear or an axe. She teaches the inhabitants to fight, as there will always be war.

Relations with the Realm

Long ago, the Triad worked out a deal with the Realm; they pay a nominal tribute and give good trade terms, and in return, the Realm leaves them largely independent. However, House Memnonic has its eyes on Mauvewall, and many fear Jonni may try to seize the city to tap its temples as a power supply for her eventual take-over of the Realm. The Triad have been quietly talking to House Ragnarok about counter-measures if this happens.

The city is also contemplating a deal with the Boo of the North, if he continues to advance.

The Mauvewall

It has been noticed that this is one of the ugliest walls in the universe. It actually induces nausea in Oni and Kawaii Priest(esses), who must roll Conviction at difficulty 2 to approach the city. It has been left that way by the locals as a result.
