Group separates - some travel by skycraft, others by Grace's Stormwind Rider
Arrive at Marukan, meet Edena Tazo, coughing young man and attaché
Lapis discovers Tazo is not nearly as nervous as he appears
Tazo escorts group to inn on western side of city, far from where earthworks are being erected, army encamped
Tazo sent for word, comes back with info that Mask of Winters will be there in three days, reinforcements from Marukan Redoubt will arrive in six
Mayhiros Wotis sneaks into Anaba's room, tells her about his family history, political trouble, assassination attempt, Enelopé's decision to take a new husband in advance of the attack on Marukan
Lays out his plan to the group: to enter Celeren Manse and secretly attune it during the potluck his mother is hosting that night, before his mother announces her engagement, but needs time to do so, time during which the Essence disruptions will not be noticed; can get them into potluck so they can arrange the distraction if they will agree, which they do
Asks them not to kill Gamenos Tieri or Makos Yurei if possible, will make them deals to buy them off; Eupethos Antinus, however, can die, and perhaps ought to
Messenger appears to deliver invitations to potluck
They go to Celeren Manse, quietly inform Enelopé of Wotis' presence, suggest a competition among the suitors
Yurei is playing Gateway, kicks Lapis' ass, Lapis finds out Yurei's greatest desire is Lookshy, makes him a deal (calls him a "snake" to the others), offering Yurei a post as liaison to Lookshy, Yurei takes the deal
Antinus is flirting with Lespa, who seems receptive, to the public embarrassment of Enelopé
the competition is announced: one contest each of combat and mental acuity, and a final "tiebreaker" test if need be
Tieri outwrestles both Yurei and Antinus, though Yurei puts up a respectable show and Antinus looks like a wuss, then Yurei beats Antinus as well in a fight with only a little more drama
The next challenge is tactical - they must provide plans for the defense of Celeren; Enelopé asks Anaba to judge, insulting Lespa; Tieri suggests a frontal assault; Antinus suggests waiting for the Mask's arrival and relying on the Legion's earthwork defenses; Yurei says a frontal assualt is doomed and waiting for the attack weakens the Marukani cavalry, suggests a harrying attack before the Mask can arrive in hopes of buying time until reinforcements can arrive; Anaba agrees, awards the victory to Yurei
Midnight arrives, Antinus is sulky - expects to lose - when Wotis arrives, kills Antinus with jade javelin, decalres he is rightful owner and demonstrates command of the Manse
Yurei agrees to follow Wotis' leadership, Tieri stands down as well, Enelopé embraces her son, Lespa is outraged, Wotis tells Lespa he wants the Solars to act as his liaisons to the Legion, Lespa storms out, but agrees next day
