Red Dawn Rising, Lord Leothis
Who He Is
Lord Leothis is--or was--Dancing Ruby Wing's father, a very influential, and very rich, merchant in Nexus. When the party left Great Forks and came to Nexus, Ruby led them to the house she had had to flee two years before in the hope that her father would be sympathetic to her plight. Fortunately for her, she was right.
Known History
From a young age, Red Dawn Rising was born to rule. A member of the prominent Leothis merchant house, Red Dawn Rising quickly showed that he had a knack for business dealings, eventually taking over many of the operations of the house from his father, whose health was failing. Just before his father died, he married Emerald Willow, a member of another merchant house. The marriage was loveless, but the two became good friends and had three children, two of which died before they were a year old. The remaining child had her father's bright red eyes, and the proud parents named her Dancing Ruby Wings.
From the start, Ruby had little interest in business despite Red Dawn Rising's best attempts to teach her. She was forever sneaking off to playfight with the guards or reading books about grand adventures. He never gave up on her education, though, and managed to ram some of the properties of civility and business through her ears before the day when Dancing Ruby Wings, burning with the unholy light of the Anathema, fled Nexus with the Wyld Hunt at her heels.
Red Dawn Rising was devestated, as was Emerald Willow. While his wife turned to the Immaculate Faith for comfort, Lord Leothis threw himself into his business, further expanding his already large merchant empire. He even bought up a gem merchant business in Great Forks, and hired the owner--Maylin--to act as his "secretary." His wife didn't notice, as she was caught up in her religious devotion. Things were, if not well, than at least comfortable until the day that his daughter returned, over two years after she had left. He was overjoyed to see her, but Emerald Willow was not, and this dislike culminated in a Wyld Hunt which led to the burning of Lord Leothis' manor and his own death, unable to escape the flames. His last thoughts were of how he had failed to protect his daughter and how he desperately wanted another chance.
Red Dawn Rising was a worldly man, and his awakening in the Underworld did not surprise him.
Appearance
Lord Leothis looks much as he did in life, except for the burn scars across his body. He knows that more powerful ghosts can change their appearance, but he has not yet mastered that aspect of ghostly power. He is tall, with shoulder length blond hair and a well trimmed beard (though only some of it survived the fire), both of which have streaks of grey in them. His eyes are the same blazing red color as those of his daughter, and often unnerve people who are unused to his appearance. His time as a merchant left him without a strong physique--he is tending towards fat, though the outlines of muscles can still be seen underneath the pudge. Much of his youthful good looks are gone, and the scars of his death do not help his appearance.
